I've just discovered this new phrase:

結構やるじゃないか

Aparently it means something like "you're pretty good", but I like to break sentences down so let me see if I get this right...

結構 means "good" or "splendid" and やる means "do". So, 結構やる means "do well". Although I thought that adverbs were suppose to have に in them. Maybe it's just a set verb like 勉強する?

Anyway...

Next we have じゃないか, which I'm not overly familiar with, but I believe it's a tag question similar to "isn't it" "aren't they" etc. So 結構やるじゃないか might mean "you're pretty good, aren't you".

Question regarding じゃないか - are there any other forms that this can take? How about ではないか or じゃないですか? What about leaving off the か? Because I've seen the sentence お宅はすごく大きいじゃない which I thought meant "your house is really big, isn't it"

Finally, I have this sentence too:

君、結構やるらしいじゃないか

らしい indicates some sort of assumption or judgement based on what was seen or heard. So that final sentence might translate to:

- Apparently you're pretty good, aren't you; or
- I hear you're pretty good, hey

Yep. You're absolutely right about this. Maybe there's some difference in nuance between ではないか and the others, but nothing I can put to writing properly within few minutes of hasty thinking..

Ja nai ka sounds really icky and harsh to me....with the "ka" should be one keystone that it is a guy talking. Definitely a masculine way of phrasing it.

No, ni or to isn't always necessary. You know like kanari or zuibun (and others), right ? Sorry I'm at work now and in a massive panic at getting caught online...
