Do you know the 3 key meanings of -ていく? Learn with this video how to use this expression naturally in different situations, and how native speakers use it in daily conversation.

When you're leaving home in the morning to go to work when should you say 行ってきます and when should you say 行きます?
Or is it just personal style?

Also let's say I'm at the office and leave to visit customer and then I plan to go home after that. Is it ok to say 行ってきます even though I don't plan to return to the office after the customer visit? Or should I say just 行きます to say I'm going (but not necessarily coming back).

行ってきますis used as a kind of greeting. So you could use in this situation, because you work there and you will come back next day to see them again. So it's quite natural to say 行ってきますbut you can add explaining でも今日はお客さんに会った後、こちらに戻らないでそのまま自宅に帰りますね

You could say like this too 今日これからお客様に会いに行って、その後そのまま自宅に帰りますね。In this case I didn't use 行ってきます but I used 行きます【行って】
