Examples of Japanese influence in non-Japanese movies esp. Sci-fi

[Master of Time]

There seems to be an incredible volume of subtle and not-so-subtle influences of Japanese culture, whether hairstyles, products, clothing design, architecture, history, literature, etc. on non-Japanese movies, esp. sci-fi. This is a thread for discussing the fact and posting examples.

This is my favorite short film among all the Dust collection of short films I have seen. I think these are the best performances of both Hugh Jackman and Saoirse Rohan. (just kidding!) My favorite scene contains what is clearly a Japanese style sword. But it is my favorite for the incredible quick thinking of the character Gordon and his use of everything at his disposal to achieve his goal, including the data core, at both the beginning and the end of the scene.

This one is almost all Chinese influence, but for some reason there is a Maneki-neko in it...futurized.

I don't know where you got that information. This says the name was derived from Rambo apples.

 

[Belkov]

A recent example is Ghost in the machine (1995) film. It had a significant effect on nineties Hollywood sci-fi action films and also on Hollywood film makers.

Not forgetting as well Akira Kurasawa whose films Rashomon and Seven Samurai had Hollywood remakes but also had influence on Hollywood directors, in particular George Lucas of Star Wars fame.

Lets not forget Godzilla which Hollywood has been movies of.
