MEXT Scholarship through University Recommendation

Hi! Also applied through the University Recommendation route and I signed an "affirmative candidate" form with my prospective uni back in February. I'm also waiting for the official results of MEXT for the October 2023 placement.

My university has already sent us housing application portals. Is it wise to apply already even though we don't have the official results yet? Thanks!

Hi all!

I have also applied for the MEXT scholarship through the university recommendation track. I am currently a candidate, and I recently received information from a staff member at my prospective lab stating that the results will be announced in July. I am curious to know if any of you are also awaiting the final results of the university recommendation, especially those who applied for a special program (PGP).

Are there preparations that can be done while waiting for the final result from MEXT (assuming that the nominee will be accepted)?

Hi all! I'm planning to apply for the university recommendation for the next academic year and just wanted to make sure, do we need to inquire the administration of each graduate school thru email for the detailed requirements, etc? I saw that almost all universities tell the applicants to head to each graduate school's website but the admission info on the graduate school website doesn't really specify anything about MEXT university recommendation. Thanks!

Hi, have you tried to contact your prospective supervisor on your desired University? you may wanted to ask his/her guidance regarding this matter. If your university have already stated in their website that you'll be inquired to have some document, kindly ask the committee for further information (through email) regarding your chosen scheme of scholarship. That is what I do before applying to some of the program. May it helps and good luck!

Ah I see, thank you! So I suppose the deadline would be different for each uni, then? I'm planning to contact them probably this September since now is maybe still a bit early to ask about the next period of admissions.

Try to apply in the First Round.

What do you mean by first round?
Typically, the Mext University Reccommendation selection process is extensive, thus most universities select students who apply in the first round of university application. (Different university have different selection criteria.)

I see! I didn't know they have different rounds. Do you have an idea when would the first round usually is? I have visited university websites and they usually only mention estimate periods like "...around December the year before". I do aware that different graduate schools might have different deadlines.
