Hello guys. I've been wandering around this website and hoped to spot any MEXT Japanese Studies category applicants for 2022-23?

Here in Australia, we had done a written exam and an interview for the first screening in March.

There were no official notifications regarding whether I had passed the first screening or not, but I am going to assume that I had since the embassy asked for my x-ray (since it says "only those who pass the first screening are required to undergo x-ray" on the embassy website). Though, no further update since then. Just eager to see the progress in other places too.

Hoping to hear shares regarding this year's applications around the world and keeping each other updated and less anxious hehe.

I'm also curious about the 2021-22 recipients' experience in Japan under COVID as well!

Cheers,
Gelato

Hi there,
Sorry for the late reply.
I think we are not applying for the same category. The MEXT scholarship has a few categories, the one I am applying for lasts for a year for Japanese studies, and the one you are applying for belongs to 4/5 years undergraduate category, I assume?

Yes, I'm applying for BBA btw how was your interview ? I'm really nervous and what about those two questions ( what's your trigger and how could you contribute), I'm really looking forward for your reply

The interview lasted for 20 minutes and I answered two of the questions in Japanese and the rest in English. Some questions were in relation to the two questions you have mentioned, but some of them were about your confidence in living and studying overseas. Don't be nervous because the interviewers were really nice and just continue along with the conversation:LOL:. Make sure you have a clear mind about what you want to study (the more specific the best I think).
Good luck to you!

That's Good to hear , I'm relieved.. do you use face book? WhatsApp? let's connect though and be friends, I hope you accept my request.

Hello, I am also applying for this scholarship, from Brazil, though my process seems to have been a little different (I'm applying through embassy btw).

I sent the initial documents, passed the written test and the interview and then finally sent the rest of the documents. I had to have an X-ray but didn't have to send the actual exam or anything, just the health certificate form signed and filled by the doctor. I was told by the embassy after all of this that I'd know whether I passed the second screening about two months before the actual flight (they explicitly said it'd be sudden...), and that the flight is usually around the end of September or beginning of October, which is a lot later than I thought. Still no update, but going by what they said I'll probably only hear something in July (if I even passed).

There's also a boy from my school (in a class more advanced than me) who passed first screening and is also currently waiting the final answer.
I wish everyone luck, hope we can all pass. Here's hoping!

Hey Jaspion,
Welcome aboard!
The procedure was pretty much the same here in Australia and still no update yet. Hopefully, we will have some updates by the end of next month, or if not, in early July. Good luck to you too!!!

Hi PK,
The MEXT scholarship we are applying for is for undergrad students of Japanese Studies (or language etc) major only. It is different to the one you are applying. There are no mathematics or other tests required other than the Japanese test (the same one for the research scholarship if you are interested) for the Japanese Studies category.
A link to the past exams if interested (inc. undergrad exams): Qualifying Examinations for Applicants for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships - Examination Questions|Application Process|Scholarships Offered by Private Organizations|Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Students|Planning studies in Japan|Essential guide for international students considering study in Japan
I think the application for the undergrad scholarship has opened now. Good luck!!!

Thank you, I was applying for UG humanities, there they have math, Japanese and English test, I've already sent an application to the embassy by courier, it'll be helpful if you share your interview and examination experience, although that was I'm asking about in this forum, To be honest I'm really worried and nervous about the interview and the examination, even though I'm preparing for the test,

Hey PK,

I'm not sure about the content or the process of interview for the undergrad category, but I'll share my interview experience for the Japanese Studies category.

We did the Japanese exam (written, multiple-choice based) at the Consulate-General of Japan in person, and an email from the Embassy arrived a few days after to schedule an interview (if you have passed the exam).

My interview was conducted online and it lasted for twenty minutes. The interviewer was very kind and easy to talk with, so there is no need to stress too much as it was more of a conversation chatting and introducing yourself. My interview was mostly conducted in English (I was trying to answer in Japanese but my brain was fried to answer English questions in Japanese hahaha). Although there was a sense of formality, the interview was very smooth and it was all about you.

Questions could be concluded into
- Why do you want to study in Japan?
- What uni and field--> why
- Any aspects of Japan are you interested in (culturally)
- What makes you a good candidate to study overseas in general (study and living wise)

Yeah, so I think basically their questions are there for you to introduce yourself and talk more, so they get to know more about you! I consider the interview to be less stressful compared to the exams hahaha, as long as you are clear about your motivations, and the benefits of studying your specific subject in Japan for you, Japan and your home nation. Hope these would help.

Good luck!
Gelato.

Thanks man , really thanks a lot , Can we be friends ?, I'll notify you wheather if I'm passed the screening or not soon , thankyou for your reply.

Hey PK,
Sorry for the late reply. I think it would be great to share info in the forum for future reference. Let's stick to this forum!:)

Hey everyone - I wasn't planning to apply this year but hey why not.

In the interview, do they ask about your research project? Mine is a bit tragic at the moment lol.

Hi Samusu!
Are you sure this is about the Japanese Studies scholarship and not the undergrad scholarship? I ask because you have a Brazil flag, and as far as I know, this specific scholarship is no longer taking applicants this year.

There have also been similar threads in previous years that may contain valuable information, even if the details of the application have changed. It may be worth checking those out.

Hi,
Our choices are quite the same ^^
Hope that we all hear good news soon!

Hello! I also applied for the Japanese Studies program. I passed the interview and the japanese exam, and the people from embassy told me that the final results should come by the end of the middle of the year lol. Which is June but I think it's gonna take more than that based on forums in the past. Was anyone else informed when the results should come?
