It's my regular Sunday commute. I add a few kilometres on the way home: Tamagawa - Sumidagawa - Arakawa.

No, I just looked at the pharmacy sign.

That's a significant commute. At least two hours one way I would guess?

I can't, and I asked my wife, but she couldn't make out the two white (horizontal) signs down a bit farther. (only a guess or two)

We grew some once or twice long ago, not these days. It's not in the pic, but I did have a beer--sake is just a Shogatsu thing for us.

One or two comments over this was about prices. The tray on the right used to be ¥780, today was ¥980. And shrink-flation for the ikura--same price for a smaller pack.

Yaezakura is one of my favourite kinds of cherry blossoms, along with Shidarezakura.

A week or two ago I had the brilliant idea to collect names of the different kinds of cherry trees. Before I got started (thankfully) I discovered that in both english and japanese there are long wikipedia entries, also on cultivars and other aspects. No links, but easy to go to if you want to look.

That's a good idea for a JREF article. No need to leave the entire field to Wikipedia.

There are two temples in our neighbourhood: one is famous for ajisai (hydrangea), the other for tsutsuji (azaleas). Azaleas usually start blooming in May when we get a lot of local tourists during Golden Week. It's quite early this year.
