Matsusaki, about a half hour away.
The connection is that my wife knows the 女将/okami there (classmates? if I've got this right). Very old name/family, embedded in the history of the area. Kind of the start, from there on to Fukui, of lots of onsen.

This picture is not mine but posted with the kind permission of Francesco Baldessari, who lives nearby and took it this morning. It's the view of Inamuragasaki where the forces of Nitta Yoshisada landed in 1333 to capture Kamakura, probably taken at Zaimokuza Beach near Komyoji.

Wait a minute, I thought you were a long term resident of Japan?! How could you not know that tuna eyeballs are a consumable?

Main reason I took a pic is one of ours would always want the little eyes from when we had grilled fish. So with aji or something like it, the eyes would kind of be on the back of the fish--since it was split open and grilled. I think one of her teachers once said that the eyes were the most nutritious part, or would make you smart--something along those lines. So at one meal or another we'd all pass the eyes over to her, usually small BB-sized things, hard, no taste, etc. It kind of became a running family thing (still is), and so when I saw these, I took a pic and sent it along to her with the message, "thinking of you". (she's 28 now)
This supermarket is a chain, but my wife says it was once a fish store (?) and something about the place definitely retains that--it is the place to go for fresh fish. There's another branch of the chain that's about as far in a different direction, and it's night and day different. The produce section at the first one is also good. Likely independent management. Very independent.
