Xi You Ji is a Chinese television series that aired in the late 1980s. I love it so much. The series follows the adventures of a group of Chinese monks that travel west of Chinese in search of Buddhist scripts. They encounter monsters and gods and such. The whole show is very surreal and one of the protagonists, Sen Wu Kong, is a monkey with incredible powers such as the ability to transform into anything, fly, etc.
The FX are pretty bad but that's what makes the series a classic.
It's based off a classic Chinese book of the same name, and the series is extremely famous among Chinese people.
Anyone know this show?

Ah, Journey to the West. I've been watching a version of it on cable, though I don't know how old this version is. Excellent.

Yeah, it airs on International Channel on Saturdays at 3 PM Central. I watched it once, but the FX were so bad that I had a hard time getting past them. The monkey king (孫悟空) shows up in a few anime as well. Probably the most famous is "Dragonball," in which he is the main protagonist (Son Gokテサ). He also appears in "Love Hina" (sort of) and "Read or Die" (again, sort of).

Hmmm. Maybe it's a blessing that I don't care about the special effects. I've been enjoying it.

Oh ya man!I used to watch Xi You Ji last time! its a very nice show to watch in sense of monster fighting and mystical quest ...hohoho~
