Why Japanese people hate foreigners so much...

I thought this was a Japan bashing thread, but you sound like you like them. And it sounds like they like you.

They do, I was joking. But there has been some disconcerting news about the Japanese government's, um, attitudes? towards visiting foreigners.

In light of putting actual content into this thread, does anyone here have any personal experience with the bad side of the Japanese police? Anything, whether you were guilty or not?

Japan *is* backward, and Japan is weird.

My friend living in Japan got in trouble with the police once, but she's kind of rude and entitled, so...

I think they asked to see her ID and she pitched a fit over it. They did just randomly stop her and demand to see it without any good reason, though, so I can see why she felt offended.

What I was really going to say is that I'm surprised everyone here has taken the topic so lightly...does that mean things have changed for the better? I remember hearing horror stories about how foreigners were being turned away from bathouses and businessplaces in the countryside. Someone told me she got yelled at by a homeless man for ruining his country with her foreigner presence. The popular social site Mixi wouldn't allow foreigners to join because they were "too noisy" back when I tried joining a few years ago. There are also issues with being accepted as a member of Japanese society if you're mixed race, but I hear that is being discussed by the media more and more.

I don't think ALL Japanese are racist, that would be a ridiculous statement. But I think there are conservative bigots in every country, and I had heard that they were somewhat abundant in Japan...? My partner also told me that when he lived there, even though nobody hated him, he was definitely seen as an outsider, and it's ok for outsiders to be weird or different from Japanese norms because they don't belong. Even if that's not outright hatred, that's still a form of racism.

Secondhand information is not always reliable. Keep that in mind.

It all depends on the meaning of "somewhat abundant". Yes, they exist. The more vocal get more attention. So what?

Oh Really??.but I don't think So.they are lovely people.I don't know much and more about them, but I know they are more and much better than Americans...LOL
