Why do many Chinese and Koreans hate Japanese?

I heard a urban legend that every where you meet a group of Japanese, Korean and Chinese, you'd better off leave that place asap because those guys will fight each other soon enough.

In fact, this is very true that there were a time I went to a pub in Singapore. There were couple of Koreans over there already. Lately, there were two Japanese came. Koreans start mocking these Japaneses in English. Eventually, it lead to a fight and cops came.

I understand that there were wars between those countries long ago. Why don't these people let it pass away and live in peace?

for me I like Japan cuz they are wonderful and I hate to hear something which is not nice about them
but we shouldn't make a stereotype cuz people are individuals if someone isn't good with me I don't have the right to say a bad expression about his family and country

I think for many people , hate is a hobby.

I think hateing someone/another country is a way to vent our daily frustrations/anger in our own lives. Say I'm stuck in a job or a marriage that I can not escape. If I have someone to hate and blame for my problems , it makes me feel a bit better.
Also , I think hate gets passed down from family/teachers/clergy to young people. For instance, my dad hated colored people so I grow up hateing/fearing colored people. Or my grandfather hated Japanese and told me horror stories about them , so I grow up hateing/fearing them.
Hate is just a terrible waste of energy; think how much better the world could be without it.

I think it is because some Japanese people I know go on about how cheap the Chinese people are taking tissue and toilet paper from fast food outlets and being very stingy with money banking almost everything they make to send back to China, whereas Japanese people are not so kechikusai nor gametsui and keep their frugality to a reasonable level that even North Americans and Western Europeans could stomach doing if they had to. But the Chinese are able to save losing only to South Asians in the level of cheapskate.

I never grew up around any other asian ethnic groups than Japanese..or white people..and most of the Koreans or Chinese I knew were American born..

Aahh, it is just a common trend among the neighbours and the world.
I saw Europeans also do the same thing. British don't like Germany, Germany don't like Russians. France don't like Germany. France don't like Turkish...
Malay don't like Indonesians, and vice versa. Singaporeans don't like Malay, and vice versa also.
Aussie look down to New Zealanders, and say they are provincial.
Americans said to be yankees by British.

So many.... so many, it is not only Japanese, Chinese, and Koreans.

I wonder if a part of it has to do with the fact that many of view Japanese people with awe and that because we perceive them as beings being more honourable at least as a group than the rest of the people in the world that there is some jealousy to this. I wonder why they are viewed as being a bit more sacred above others? As a non Japanese, I tend to see them to be more honourable and trustworthy just because they are Japanese even without necessarily having to earn my trust that I often do not extend to either Chinese or Koreans.

Yup it is true. Vietnamese dislike Chinese.
There has been several times, protest from small scale to big scale for anti China. Just recently three weeks ago, in front of China Embassy in Hanoi.

Chinese dislike Americans, there has been several times protest in front of US embassy in Beijing.

But it is interesting, Indonesians/ Malays dislike Chinese also with deep hatred.
Some of them prefer Japanese or Koreans, however some of them, hate Japanese (due to WW2) as well Chinese as well Westerners (Australians, Americans, British, Irish etc).

Huhuhu.. hatred is everywhere...

It's hard to let past hurts go. Especially on the level of cultural identity. I have no doubt in my mind that the Japanese butchered millions of Chinese, Koreans, and what have you during World War II. I have no doubt that they experimented on their prisoners. And this me, I love Japanese culture, but am I gonna turn a blind eye to history? No.

You know, Frank, the reason I dislike the British has nothing to do with my daily frustrations. I don't hate them, but I wonder all the time how we can be so cruel to each other, and then stare back with puppy dog eyes when what we've sowed comes calling.

In all this, I must add, I believe that the Japanese and the British would get along best if geography is close. They are both "gentlemen" in spirit, and both admire good manners and deportment.

I recently read "Watching the English," an ethnography of British social behavior. The author drew a few parallels between the English and the Japanese, especially in terms of "politeness." However, the kind of politeness she talked about was mostly the empty sort, like apologizing when you bump someone on the subway (even when it's their fault); an automatic response that is utterly meaningless, but its absence is very noticeable.

I think neither the British and the Japanese are inherently "honorable" people, but their societies condition them to be easily embarrassed, and it's this aversion to embarrassment that leads to all this politeness.

If someone bumped into me, or I bumped into them, I would not apologize, but merely ask if they were alright. If I bumped into someone on accident, it would likely cause them to fall on their asses. I'm a bit too big of a person and not made for being bumped into. Thus the concern for whether or not they're alright.

I fully agree with Uncle Frank! Hatred is not good at all.
You are hurting yourself by spending time on hating other nations.
But I can understand the Chinese and Koreans who suffered so tremendously under the Japanese occupation. Only of course today we live with another generation of Japanese people. On the other hand the Japanese governments (since 1945) refuse to admit their extreme cruelty during WWII in China and Korea. The Japanese are victims of the A-bomb, so that made them victims instead off war criminals in their own eyes. Nobody will say that the A-bomb wasn't horrible! But is time that the Japanese government will say that there WWII war crimes were horrible.
Maybe they must get down from their throne of arrogance?

Russia says it's theirs and Japan says it's theirs. But nobody really knows who's property it is. As for the Koreans, I really wouldn't know.

Well, I guess America was being smart at the time, because it was around then that the Bolsjewitz started to come up. Those guys would later introduce Communism, and that's negative for any capitalistic country. Wow, this is why I love history. We also done dropped a A-Bomb on 'em..laugh at that..as my grandpa being a WWII veteran he hated them as much as the next american..japanese-american or not, they felt like it deserved.

It's always been a governments speciality to brainwash people. Look at us, the Belgians. 50 years ago, we fought together with the Dutch as friends, and now we're scowling at eachother like we commited mass-homocide.

This might be a bit off-topic but:

- Two A-bombs were dropped, not one.
- A-bombs were only a small part of what Japan got. There were many air-raids, Tokyo alone was air-raided 106 times, Nagoya 63 times, Osaka 33 times. More than 200 cities were bombed and the number of death is estimated to be 220,000 to 550,000 (varying depending on the organization who made investigation).
At the beginning they only targeted at the military facilities but since Curtis LeMay became in charge, they started Carpet Bombing - another name was "frying-pan bombing", starting bombing 窶壺??rom the surrounding area so there's no chance for people (most of them were civilians) to escape from the fire. 80,000 - 100,000 people were killed in the air-raid just over night in Tokyo on 10th March 1945.
Approx. 20% of the total housings in Japan at that time were destroyed.

Of course, being victim of A-bombs and many air-raids does not make any excuse for the atrocity Japan did to its neibouring countries.
But I would like to mention the above as I do not think that they were well known to some people, especially those from the U.S.

Besides, Japan isn't the only country that suffered bombings. Almost every country that has participated in WWII has suffered air raids or artillery bombing. Of course it's horrible what happened at Nagasaki and Hiroshima, but those people aren't the only victims. Have people forgotten the American actions in Vietnam? The famous picture of the little Vietnamese girl running away from bombings by the Americans, her clothes torn from her burnded body by the explosions? ( Sorry if I offended anyone with this )
