I think basically the threadstarter was fishing for compliments and just wanted a few over polite forum members to reply and assure him ,that there is nothing wrong with arab people and compliment him on his culture etc..

My personal opinion ist this:
Culture obviously has a big influence on ones personality but it´s nothing really deep seeing als emotions are the same around the world only your perception of worth and moral among other things is formed by culture.
But these are no static facts they can at any time be changed.
If a person independent of his cultural background manages to actually control his ego and regain consciouns of his true self ,which I believe is just a connection to a flow of energy which connects every thing be it living or "dead" (no I´m not talking about the force), he will be able to see all these labels he has given himself or was given as false.

I think there is a problem within the western world is that Arab=Muslim=Fundie. Seem to forget there are such things as christian/Jewish/atheist/etc. arabs. Arabs are not a religion, but a people.

What's your preference with mjudra? I prefer burghul (it's what I grew up with) but many recipes I've seen call for rice.

I was just hit with a sudden craving for mjudra, and am going to make some tomorrow. I'm trying to decide if I should stick with burghul, or expand my horizons and try using rice.

I know, weird question.... I'm like that sometimes.

hmm..i don't know what mjudra and burghul ,i've never heard this names before !!
But you said something about rice so what i know is kabsah ( rice with meat ) that's what we eat here in Saudi Arabia as a main meal.

It's Shami food ( Shami = Syria,Jordan,Lebanon,Palestine )..
In Saudi Arabia we don't make Mjudra,burghul ...We make Kabsah witch is this :

Rice and meat....

In Yemen we eat different food ( 3asseed or 3asseedah ) :

3asseed is a common meal in Yemen,South Saudi Arabia,Sudan,Somalia,and some close regions to Yemen.

Also,we share alot of recipes with Turkey and Turkish Kitchen has alot of good recipes,it's very very good.

hi I'm half Arabian and first of all I really hate it when people use the word 'Arabs' or 'Muslims' so easily I mean there are about 22 Arab countries and about 48 Muslim countries, so do you guys really think that all of them are the same? this is just stupid.

Second of all I lived all my life in Arab countries and moved from one to another and I can say that Arabs are kind and friendly but what made me go crazy is the close minded ideas related to the girls such as girls cannot fall in love and marry someone from a different nationality but the guys can, instead parents will give her to the first "suitable" man knocks on their door.
and how come women work AND do all house chores while men only work? no Arabian man would cook or clean or teach the kids since its the wife's job beside working outside.

I know I cant say that all Arab families are like that but sadly most of them are, Yesterday I went to school (I'm a teacher) and I was so excited about the world cup but that didnt last long since all the Arab ladies kept hitting me with "soccer is for men" and "I don't have time for this" and "instead of being so excited about soccer you should look for a man to marry before you get old" and then they started to talk about what they cooked yesterday... >__<

man I tell you I would rather die than to end up like one of them....their lives are so boring that it hurts.

naaah man its not education its alot more complicated, I see modern educated free families with stupid ideas all the time....its this weird obsession about tradition and how they must cling to it even though its 1000 years old! and sadly....these stupid ideas are only applied on women, men can do what the hell they want.

I agree with Huppiflupp. Being able to read and write in one or several languages, or graduating from a good school makes you literate, but not necessarily educated. The ingredient that the persons you describe seem to be lacking, is the capacity to use their potential to acquire information in order to construct a personal judgment, independently from social influence or possible brainwashing they may have been subject to as children, which we can sum up under the umbrella term "critical thinking". Some are born with it, but most people need to learn it as part of their educational curriculum or at home, from their parents or tutors.

As far as I could see, that's one of the main weaknesses of the Arab world.

So is the case in all patriarchal societies. And even in ones which have evolved beyond that, you could still see remnants of the old system in many social aspects. In matriarchal systems you would have "stupid ideas applied only on men, whereas women can do what they want"!!
Unfortunately, no matriarchal society has survived unscathed to our age. According to my readings, some anthropologists believe that women were the ones who devised the first linguistic terms and concepts, since they had all the time to do so while taking care of their children whereas their men were hunting in the wild, and so for some time they had some kind of authority; but as soon as they came to master the new invention, it seems that the predominance of brutal force in the olden times gave men the upper hand.

I'm not sure, but I reckon that if most societies in history were female-dominated we would've probably had a much more peaceful world. Though equality of sexes remains the best in any case!!

Not only that, but we'd all get laid more often. Compare our two closest relatives, chimpanzees and bonobos.

I very much doubt ,that the major conflicts could have been avoided if women were the dominant sex in most societies.
There are more than enough examples for power hungry women ,who didn´t or don´t care about anyone but themselves.
A bad personality is not

Most western societies actively discriminate against men ,but so far it´s still a taboo to talk about it.
Also many women willingly victimize themselves but in the end blame their male counterpart or a patriarchal society for their failure to be independent.

But still globally women are still discriminated against far more than men and have far less opportunities to exercise their rights.
