okay here is my dilemma. The admin staff at my school have been continuosly blocking all the regular threads I chat on here at the forums because they deem the unappropriate. I hate this! it is very rare I can access from home so school is my only option and they just blocked the thread "need advice" by Knives. I was using that thread damnit!!!! and now I can't access it.

what do I do?

well, they're most probably monitoring this thread too.. *looks shifty*

Hi jieshi's school staff!... why are you blocking out all this stuff? he chatting too much on school time?.. reading a few posts and adding one takes a few minutes.. it's better than getting discouraged at school.. that'll just kill your motivation to learn stuff... just allow it, will ya?

i dunno.. it's not like there's profanity and stuff here.. it's tightly monitored by those nazi moderators running around the place...

....
WHOOPS!

If you know the thread URL, just paste it into your browser, add a dot & hit "enter".
Eg. this thread:
https://jref.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=119119
+ "."
https://jref.com/forum/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=119119.

I found that on some geek forum, some web filters can't recognize the altered URL & let you load it.

just tried that and failed!!! :(
my school techs are into security and they use a pretty good filter program. It ws explained to me that the filter they use looks at the content before it loads it and decides if it suitable or not!! why must they be so intelligent?

its weird since theres so many urls that can be used to view the same thread. thread number, new post number and and individual post number for each person that has posted to the thread. i wonder what is setting the filter off...?

I don't think it's possible to block you from certain thread.. especially when they are not the admin of this site

think you may have got it wrong

Seems like they're running a word-filter that actually looks at the content of the page. Once it finds certain keywords it will block the page. That means it won't actually look at the URL.

Oddly, this thread now contains the word "nazi" and it doesn't get blocked. Perhaps they find that educational...

yeah thats right. Nazi is regarded as educational

Jieshi, that is so strange! As you know, I am on the thread you're talking about, and for the life of me, I can't think of anything wrong with it--no bad language, subject matter, etc. That is really weird! However, I think that thread has kind of died down now, if that's any consolation. Shoot! If you ask them, will they tell you specifically what they find so offensive about that particular thread? Just curious ...

umm. there are two rivers down which you can kayak...

number one: ever seen fight club? remember the soap? well, make some... and use it to destroy their servers... You'll probably loose all access to the internet, but what does that matter when you can't access Jref? :D

or number two: (I'd try this first), attempt to find an https search engine to access the forum (I used this to get around firewalls for some time in school to access any necessary naughty business :D). umm, i forgot the name of the one I used, but from what I remember, any site you entered from the search results was secure, so admin or firewalls couldn't see what you were doing. if this works, ie. they haven't dissalowed https sites, you can pretty much freely surf the net. Just dont tell too many people cause if people are monitoring, they will notice too many blank screens and ban https.

Blessed has a great idea. I work for the Navy, and some pages are not allowed. But, if I do a google search for some of the pages I want to see and access that way, it usually lets me in because I didn't enter the URL into the address bar. But it may not work with your problem because you say that they are reading each page as it loads and not just checking URL's? :?

Good Luck!

yeah or about.com search where it has the bar at the top
or a link via hotmail.

satori i don't know whats wrong with that thread either! the IT techs here are a bit weird. Oh and ages ago they hooked all the computers in the school up with a program called VNC so if they think your doignanything suspicious they can instantly use VNC to look at what you are doing, basically they take over your computer. And then they also blocked hotmail because some idiot kids opened an email and downloaded a virus which crashed the entire network and they had to spend the entire holidays rebuilding it.

Well, that may explain a few things, I guess ...

Our school has VNC. You can fight the techys with the mouse, very entertaining. They go for the start button, but you can suddenly snatch the cursor back before they click. Then they get mad and either give up or come round shouting about his cruddy day.
