This song has special meang for me beacuse my dad was just like the dad in the song untill I played this song for him and he realized he had been missing out on my childhood and if he didnt see me now he may never get the chance to again. My dad then quit working 18 hour days and cut them back so we would have enough time to be together. We have been close ever since and I love him so much. Every once in awhile i still give him a hug and say "Thanks for everything Dad." Beacuse he has givin me so much. Well anyway take a look at these maybe you can learn something i know i did the first time i saw them. i still can not listen to this song with out bursting into tears it just has alot of meaning. :(

My child arrived just the other day,
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay,
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talking 'for I knew it, and as he grew
He said "I'm gonna be like you, dad, you know I'm gonna be like you"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you comin' home dad?" "I don't know when,

But we'll get together then, You know we'll have a good time then"

My son turned ten just the other day
He said "Thanks for the ball dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw"
I said "Not today I got a lot to do" He said "That's OK"
He walked away but his smile never dimmed,
It said "I'm gonna be like him, yeah,
You know I'm gonna be like him"

Well he came from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son I'm proud of you can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like dad is to borrow the car keys,
See you later can I have them please?"

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said "I'd love to dad if I could find the time,
You see the my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talkin' to you dad
It's sure nice talkin' to you"
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you comin' home son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, Dad,
We're gonna have a good time then"

my mom left the house when I was 4 years old due to an argument with my dad, when I was 10,I came to Vancouver with my dad and brother, while my mom stays in Hong Kong, she phones us often, and comes to visit us like once every year at maximum, she just came here about few weeks ago and she heard about some argument of me,my dad and brother, she said she could never give me and my brother back of what we have been missing, she was missing out my childhood
everytime I think about this..I just feel so...you know...

I know exactally how you feel i didnt see my dad hardly at all growing up and when i did he was walking out the door to go to work. Then when I started to have problems royaly beating on other kids at school a confrence was called and my parents took the day off to come to it and then they asked me why i had been beating these other kids and i choked out the words while balling "I miss my daddy" my dad then realized what he had been doing. Now he works graveyard shift so he can be home with us kids during the day. If you ever need to talk about it dreamtime i want you to know i am here and i know what you have been going through. I remember i made high honors and i tried to show my dad as he was leaving for work and he just blew right by me like i was not even there my heart was torn asunder but now him and i are together all of the time we go fishing and i am even gettting a job at his office working the same shift so we will be together even more now and i will have a better understanding of why he never really had time for me growing up. Like i said dreamtime if you ever need to talk ok.

Yeah, sometimes dads can't have that much time for their kids. But, when I get time with my dad I try to cherish it. I'm glad to hear about your story though, TimF. It gives me hope for the future :). By the way, that was the first time I'd really listened to that song... cool lyrics.

The Man that Comes Around by Tommy Tucker. - "There's a man that comes to our house every single day, papa comes home and the man goes away" :D

ABBA - Dancing Queen

Makes me think of Muriel's Wedding every single time I hear it. I've got it on the 70's channel right now. I'm getting ready to switch it to the 90's channel... :p

Muriel's Wedding! I love that film! I know what you mean- whenever I hear ABBA I think of it...."Shut up, let Muriel finish her orgasm" :D

Now I'm listening to Who Stole the Soul? by Public Enemy 👍

I decided to go Hip-Hop. I love this:

Juvenile - Slow Motion

But my absolute favourite line is: "You're terrible Muriel" :D That never fails to get me laughing.

Now I'm listening to Lyric Licking by Del the Funky Homosapien!! I love Del.
