I understand it is intended as a more manly alternative, although this may also depend on person, place, etc. What I'm saying is even among men it is a fairly uncommon one.That may be so, but I have not yet heard a women use the form in normal speech at all. Perhaps someone else has ?
OK, one more thing to ask about. You've just introduced a completely unfamiliar usage to date.Im sure you know:
行かなければ『ならない』
One possible contraction:
行かなければ→行かなけりゃ
