As we all know, 2006 is an Olympic year. And, as a result, the Winter Olympics are going to begin once again. This year, the party is down in Torino (or Turin if you want to be Englishtically correct), Italy.

My predictions for the games (Or jinxes if you wanna be cute):
*Canada defends its hockey gold - both men AND women. And the USA gets silver...both men AND women.
* Norway gets most of the golds.
* Some once obscure Dutchman is gonna break the world record in speed skating.
* Another German lady is gonna get gold in speed skating. The next Claudia Pechstein?
* There will be NO controversy in the figure skating events this time. And Russia will rule at the discipline. China will hold sway.
* With people like Vonetta Flowers and Garrett Hines proving that African-Americans can play at the Winter Olympics, don't be surprised if the USA nabs a few medals in the sleds.
* Even with Jim Shea out of contention for a skeleton gold, USA will still dominate.
* The Jamaican bobsled team is gonna have fun at the games. As always.
* Don't be surprised i0f Australia nabs another medal here at Torino. There's gotta be some momentum after Alisa Camplin (Aerials) and Steven Bradbury (short track) placed Australia on the map as a possible power in winter sports. Look out for the Aussies, they are gonna be fun to watch.
* A lot of players will be banned from the games due to blood boosts. Mind the people in cross-country skiing, they will be under the microscope.
* Austria will make a run for Alpine gold. Look for the USA to make noise here, and in the slaloms, thanks to one Bode Miller.
* Short track: The Koreans might try to make a plea, but looks out for the USA and Canada to rule here, with Australia sneaking one by the doorstep.
* Curling - Norway's gonna make a run here, but I expect Canada to give them, Great Britain, the USA, and Sweden all they can handle.
* Snowboarding - The USA is gonna roll up the medals here. I also expect Canada and the European nations to give some stiff competition.
* Luge - Germany is gonna be back at it. Who will be the next Georg Hackl???
* Ski Jumping - Look for Poland or one of the other European nations to take this one.
* Biathlon - Europe will take control.
* Moguls- Can Norway do it again? Or will the USA rise here?
* Again, Norway will get the most golds.
* Germany will get the most medals.
* Italy's gonna make their nation proud.
* USA is gonna finish top 5.
* Canada and Japan are gonna finish top 10.
* It's gonna be very Euro-heavy in the Top 10.
* And it's gonna be fun!
So, with less than 23 days to go, what are your thoughts?
