Sort of sad that nobody talks of anything but Visual...

Kama, I just hope you understand that when I began this thread, I didn't feel VK fans don't or shouldn't have the same rights as everyone on the forum to express their likes. I just was somewhat irritated that to see anything non-VK from time to time, a 15 webpage journey has to be conducted in which I would have to see what Gackt was wearing, when he poops, if he eats cereal, 5,000 (Mature) quizzes about Gackt/Diru/whatever just to get to something I can enjoy. So I started this thread to see if we could maybe branch off to some newer threads for folks that don't have the same passion for VK as many of us do. I did notice some cool threads later on for all types of music, but I also got some rather sour responses and a PM from someone whom feels I am the antichrist and now wishes a war of words with me. I address this in another post...

So, I say enjoy what you want to, it's your right as a human, but also remember that there are so many different types of people here and sometimes people like variety. I hear it is the spice of life

Japanamaniac and others who thisnk that they make nonsense posts, I don't feel that that has happened. Have fun when posting, just be nice when you may not agree with something. Japanamaniac and Miz have demonstrated that ability time and again as have others. Lets all get along

I do understand that. Well, there are stupoid and not stupid topics. Apparently more stupid are on the VK side... XD You can't do anything with the fact, that there are more VK fans here, and that's why there are more VK threads.

Ok, interesting discussion about all types of music.

I forgot to mention that I love Okinawa music. I mean traditional/folk in this kind not generally musicians from Okinawa. I generally like traditionat/regional Japanese music. Am I alone?

Nope, I enjoy Noh immensly. Always have, love all types of traditional music from Japan. Good stuff to sleep to sometimes.

Ant

That's good. Noh music is great. And it's very calming. If you have insomnia... I can't wait to see how many people here do listen to this kind (traditional) of music.

never heard of it too be very honest
but i'll look a few things up about it

I greatly recomend Nenes, a band of Okinawan female musicians. Ah, they were so good, it's a shame that they no longer play. They had been singing traditional Okinawan songs and their own.

Mizerable, is it me or you just can't post anything related to topic? XD

Anybody heard of Miyazawa? Miyazawa-Sick Band. They are known in Poland for the "Shimauta" song. I wonder if they are known somewhere else.

Can't say I have. Are they any good? I have heard of Nenes though...I just haven't heard any thing by them I was advised by others to listen to them though...*goes off to see about finding some*

For those in the Western world looking for Nenes and other Okinawan music, I highly recommend finding a CD called "The Rough Guide ot the Music of Okinawa"... it's probably floating around your local Borders in the International section, and it has a great selection of Okinawan music from very traditional to modern fusion acts like The Boom and Ryukyu Underground.

Good luck!

well, i have to admit to being a deg fangirl. ;_;

but i still adore plastic tree. <3 does that help at all?

:x

Ryukyu Underground isn't Okinawan band. They are American, if I remeber correctly.

I advise Nenes "Okinawa Memorial" - CD from their lives through Okinawa. I can listen non-stop to this CD.

Forgot to tell that Miyazawa is The Boom's vocalist.

http://s87940381.onlinehome.us/okinawatracks/ - Here you can listen to some traditional Okinawan songs.

One American and one British gentleman... but their work involves remixing of traditional Okinawan folk music, so it counts in a way. Neat stuff anyway... the Rough Guide just serves as a good intro which is quite easy to find for Western listeners. From there you can find which groups you really like and start exploring in depth...

I'll have to say that my favorite band is Dir en grey, but not only for the visual aspect. Dir en grey is becoming less and less VK, and they are losing many fans because of it, which I think is a ridiculous notion. A band is just that-- a band. They should be appreciated for their music above all else.
I was a geeky visual kei-fangirl when I was first introduced to jrock, but since then, I've found many non-VK band that I enjoy too. I'm a big fan of Mr. Children and Tomoyasu Hotei, and I'm in love with quite a few B'z songs.

As for the idea of wanting to have [insert popular jrocker's name here]'s love child... you're all idiots. You'll never meet him, and if you do, he won't remember you. You'll never get to know him, you'll never sleep with him, and you'll certainly never have his children, so GET OVER IT.

...sorry if I dashed your hopes and dreams.

Ok, ok. We believe you. (the doctor has said to agree to what you say )

Can you say what non-VK bands do you like? I'm interested.

I like VK too, but it doesn't matter to me what the text is like. I suppose there is no real meaning behind the text sometimes. At least listening to non-VK I know thay want to play music (I'm not talking about teen-bands) not look good and play music. Sorry, I have a trauma from Blood's concert.

Azerii, when you listen to more songs, you will definetley love B'z. They are great... XD And so sexy... I want to be Inaba's wife, or maybe Tak's doesn't matter to me. XD [Just joking. ]

Visual Kei isn't that great...I don't know why everyone loves it so much. It's just a bunch of guys with long rainbow hair and flashy costumes..we saw all that in the 80s! It's nothing new but all the Jrock fans I come across only seem to love Visual bands....or the really mainstream bands (Dir, Laruku, Gackt, etc) there's nothing wrong with those bands (I'm a huge L"Arc fan) but i think if you really love Jrock (like they claim to) they should check out other bands less loved in America (Janne Da Arc, Kimeru, mucc, Duel Jewel, Plastic Tree, ...S.O.A.P.? XD;; ) I don't hate visual but i really can't stand the fangirls that aren't more diverse. And that's all I have to say. -_-

I'd say that Duel Jewel, Plastic Tree and JDA are pretty damn well loved in the US. DJ especially, even when they certainly do not deserve it. I can't make a case against your dislike of the narrow-view fangirls, cause I have the same peeve. It's kind of silly to proclaim that you "love" a certain genre of music. If a band in a certain genre does it for you, then okay, love the band. But it's stupid to claim you love all of the genre when it's rather impossible to if you have any taste in music at all. Especially with Duel Jewel and Gazette around. *shudder*

Lydia
(OH YES AND I'VE JUST DISCOVERED MY LOVE OF HEAVY METAL THROUGH SMG.)

(Seriously.)

of course i like non-vk bands! ^____^ hmm i like asian kung-fu generation and i like orange range, and the other bands are all non-japanese like white stripes, smashing pumpkins, tatu, nirvana, and evanessance...

Tetechan, come on. When I say I love rock there is nothing wrong with this, even if I don't like ALL the rock. I just prefer to listen to rock, and it should be understood in that way.

Laruku and Janne are very nice. But they have too much outstanding songs. like Eden, Black Jack, Dolls, Romance.

Really? Wow. I must be living in the wrong part of the US then People over here only know of Diru and Gackt. It's kinda misleading too when i can't find much of anyone online from America who seems to support them. But i'm glad they got love (last thing i heard DJ was REALLY indies, where have i been? >> ) Your right about the "love of only one genre" kinda thing. It's kinda sad as well. I don't see how anyone can love 1 kinda of music and EVERY band that falls under that catagory--sounds a little hard to believe. I <3 most kinds of music b/c it's all good Music is my life!

I said "that's all i have to say" but looks like i lied -_-;;

hahaha ^_^; Ok, ok! I'm sorry! :sorry: I understand ! ^^; I tend to say I love rock instead of naming every band i love since no one has heard of half of them.

geez, am i bipolar or what? *hits self* -_- I need sleep

Sorry if I offended you. u_u

No, it's okay, Tete. You haven't offended me.

So, tell us what bands do you like, maybe we know something about them?

hi...

I gotta admit my first exposure to Jmusic was Malice Mzer and then Dir en Grey like a day later but then didn't listen to anyone else for awhile mostly because I didn't know anyone else.
Now I have a ton of Jrock vk but not much non vk but honestly don't usually know because I rarely look up info on the bands and just listen to the music. Can anyone direct me to an online place with good non vk music, I'd really like to expand my music library.

And your still transexual after surgery, transgender is just a watered down term and can apply to non-transexuals as well. I should know I am one, the lesser known ftm though
