I have just learned that the Japanese have their own flowcharting symbols. Does anyone of you know where I can find information on such? Any help is deeply appreciated.

Kamon is symbol of family or family crest.

Flowcharts are used to represent a program's (or part of a program's) flow to better understand it or to point out redundancy or problem areas.

I can't see why the Japanese would have their own?
I thought there is an international standard for these diagrams...

That was what I knew and I guess I have some explaining to do.
I want to take an IT exam sponsored by a group of Japanese. Part of that exam involves the understanding of flowcharts. I came across an article written by a former examinee, 'Tips on how to pass..' which contained this:

One thing that you would like to take note of for flowcharting is that the symbols being used may not be necessarily the symbols that you know of. The exam has certain symbols that were created by the Japanese education system... Certain symbols take the place of those that we are familiar with and sometimes causes confusion during the exam.

I know that there is supposed to be a standard set of symbols but I'm not taking any chances... :?
