Real Japanese in the Simpsons?

There was a Simpsons episode called Mr. Sparkle. I don't know much Japanese, but it sounded real to me. I was reading an article on it, and it was weird because at first it said they were 100% accurate, then other people (Japanese people) said it wasn't real and just gibberish

Have you seen it, and if you have, can you tell me if its real Japanese?

It's been a while since I saw that episode, but yeah, I do recall that they were speaking real Japanese. In the parts I remember, anyway. How authentic the language style would sound to a native speaker, I can't say, but they definitely used real Japanese words and (from what I could tell) decent grammar.

I do know I was always amused at how they translated "Doh!" as "Shimatta bakami!"

馬鹿 (baka) is idiot, fool etc.
Adding 見たい (mitai) on the end of something means "looks like...".

You sure it wasn't 馬鹿め (bakame)? That would be like "damned fool."

It might have been bakame... it's been a while since I saw the episode so I'm not sure anymore. ^^; The voice actor's pronunciation might have been a little off also, which wouldn't surprise me... but that may have made it sound more like bakami.

No mention of the episode where they actually went to Japan? Hilarious! Bart and Homer actually spoke some really, really terrible Japanese from what I remember. Funny episode... everyone should give it a shot.

Oh man, that brings back memories. I think that was the last or one of the last Simpson's episodes I watched, before I was shipped away to college and never saw a TV since. It was pretty good, too

Man, I wanna watch that episode again... just to remember what they said. I think they fixed it in the Japanese version though. Simpsons and Friends are dubbed in Japanese in Japan, it's quite funny to watch sometimes...

Though, I heard something odd. Like, when someone is being perverted or says something perverted, someone would usually say, "Dude, that's sick," or "Dude, you're sick!" (Not in the literal sense of being ill.) But the Japanese dub actually said "お前は病気だ。" as a direct translation of "Dude, you're sick." Does 病気 really have that same connotation with the word "sick" to mean "perverted"?

Hmm I believe on the Soap box, it actually does say "Mr. Sparkle" though I have no idea if they were speaking real japanese I've never bothered to listen that closely. Next time around I will.

Does 病気 really have that same connotation with the word "sick" to mean "perverted"?

病気 goes beyond a cold or a fever.. it's usually something more serious. And yes, you can use it in the connotation that someone "has a problem". My wife compulsively cleans, and I always say she's "病気", at which point she replies "I know".
