Post your arts & crafts!

Aww thank you Mars Man for your kind words 😊 and I can't wait to see your room! :p I really admire woodwork. :-) My uncle is a carpenter and joiner and he has a really natural artistic talent in that kind of thing, but me, I don't at all. I am more of a metalwork person; I like the degree of control, and wood has rather a life of its own. 😊

Wow!! You are such a gifted lady. I just wish I could draw like you do, cus it must be so much fun if I could!!! Hey, do you think you could let us hear your music by the method leonmarino-san introduced in the Post #145 here? As a proud member of your fan club, I would really love to hear.

Tsuyoiko-san:13:
Thank you so much for your kind comment and I'm so glad to hear that you like my puppies. I had learned how to make them from my grandma who just died 8 months ago, and those puppies mean alot to me. What kind of things do you make with beads? Would we get to see some?

leon-san:30:
Phew!!! I almost missed your ART!!! Wahahahahahhahaa! That was hilarious, I love that Doraemon Song!! Guess dozens of girls here have fallen in love with your singing. Hey, can I have your autograph?

Mars Man-san:22:
I just can't wait to hear your song. I really hope you will get to record and upload your singing with a help from leon-san. Ganbatte ne, I'm really looking forward to it!

arts and crafts

i hae a few here to show off...yay for me!!🙂
i try to get into all areas of arts. i just finished with an oil of pee wee herman...i am love with him!!😊
haven't taken a phot yet though. i suppose i can upload it tomorrow.
in the meantime here are a few older ones.
the first is a sketch of a greyhound
i am also into photography, this a photo of me in my wedding dress. i am standing on my bed. guess i can't hide behind social graces and stand on tyedye.
here are a couple more photos
then finally (i have tons more) this is a painting done in acrylic. it represents my imperfections and what foot i stand on most, and although i have these imperfections i have learned to be a bit more at peace with myself. as you can see the painting is not perfect. there are two right feet.
well i hope this wasn't to long, i really enjoy sharing my artwork with people, in hopes of critiquing.

Wow!! Good stuff retrodisease!! 👍
I especially like your painting. Although I have no idea where the negativity comes from in your explanation, you artistic ability hasn't suffered a bit.

Keep up the good work, I hope to see more soon!! :-)

Again, I had nothing to do. Here's a rockabilly/psychobilly rendition of the Japanese folk classic "Ame no Monogatari". Enjoy. 😌

My brother does glass egraving ad i wated to know what you thought he engraved these all by hand BTW

i did a sketch of what i thought the american flag would look like after our government was demolished. of course i would say that it is just a prediction and the emblem in the middle of the flag is close enough to the previous soviet flag

ooops i forgot to attach the photos, well here they are. the first is after i altered it to make it look like a charcol and chalk drawing. the second is the original

I think it is partly to do with what the artist is trying to communicate in their work. For example, on looking at a 'great' painting, you are stirred to a lot of emotions and thoughts, as well as simply admiration for the techniques. So it is not just that the artist wants you to look and say 'see how well it's made!', but s/he wants you to feel something else, something that is beyond that but more like an emotion that s/he was trying to communicate. And this could be done through any medium - it could be a 'traditional' oil painting, or a carving, or a building, or a piece of sewing, or a stage performance, or a matchstick model...
So, something that is traditionally thought of as 'high art', such as an oil painting, could actually be 'just craft'. If it's a boring, unmoving work which only serves to show off the painter's skill in putting paint onto canvas to replicate something, then maybe it's a great example of craft, but it isn't 'art'. On the other hand, a shop window display that is not just a collection of objects but a scene that strongly evokes emotions and atmosphere in its use of depth, colour and composition, is more a work of art than the well-crafted painting.
Does any of that make sense at all?! 😌[/IMG]

Don't forget the poststructuralist death of the Author and a determinist-systematic view of communication which makes art and intention a subtext and product of the symbols themselves without giving way to an objective qualitative dimension. Art and artist are really more social categories in my prevailing model of the world.
I love Duchamp's Fountain.

Your painting rocks though. I'm one of the right-handed guys with two left hands that are all thumbs, so seeing great sculptures/paintings/drawings makes me really envious. I'd love to learn to draw, but being so inept at even the lowliest forms of it, having little time, and being somewhat more talented at other things, I don't really find the room for it.

My craft can hardly be shown off in a simple way, but I spent the past 9 months writing a novel (which grew to a monstrous 150,000 word manuscript, got cut down to 125,000 for now and will be further edited into <100,000 before submitting agent and publisher queries).
I'm kind of appalled by my own own mediocrity in that discipline (do our works ever completely turn out the way we want them?) and the product, yet still think it's the best thing I've ever done, so besides wrapping up my law studies I'm looking to practice and improve my writing to make writing my career at some point.

when you apply meaning to something after you have finshed it but you stand back and ask yourself "what does this mean to me" "what does this make me think of" "how does this make me feel" is it worthless?
if you had ideas in your head that you later applied to the finished structure does it make it irrelanvant?
i had worked on something and decided that i was proud of it, course it didn't take me ver long to decide that!!
anyway, i show it to a "friend" and he asks me in a sort of accusing tone "did this mean something to you while you made it or after, because if you made then called it that...it is worthless, but if it meant something to you while you were making it then it is cool"
of course i am offended and a bit hurt, i get like a 12 year old when i am excited and proud of something.
so we had a quarrel over it. and he ended up calling me a fruad with no evidence of me being anysuch thing.
anyway, i think that if the meaning is added after the construction of the piece then it is still relavant because it is still there and whole. it can mean many things at anytime.
emotion is alway relavant because it is a view into ones world. also if you ask spctatour what they are thinking while observing the peice, you may get to step int to their realm!! which is obber exciting at times, you can really get to know somebody through art work!!

Hah, that looks awesome! As carb-junkie I'd stuff myself with the whole of that cake and not share a single piece.

Are your baking services for hire? Are there special cake-delivery options at the post office?

I have a wacom tablet/pen. The drawing was sketched on paper, then scanned into my computer. And then inked in photoshop and digitally air brushed.

I haven't been here in a while. That is all good work there folks !! I like all the different touches and emotions that do come out of each individual work. I enjoyed the discussion on the meaning and understanding of art--some good input there. Keep up all the good work there...Kinsao, I'll fly over to the UK, stop by and pick you up, and then we'll barge in on Tsuyoiko just as she is finishing another tasty masterpiece, and enjoy every bite with the enthusiasm of the art connoiseur !! MM

I often draw, do ceramics, paint, etc. These are a few drawings I scanned.
Click for a bigger image.
First is a picture I drew of Raven. Second is just something random, third is a drawing of Mana, and last is ... just random anime eyes I guess. Btw I often crumble up my drawings and stuff when working with them so don't ... make fun, kay? *o*

ALSO I took this picture and developed it in a dark room. This was taken at my grandmas house. The butterfly is a metal candle lantern thingy. I heart it. <3

my avatar is a picture of the newest craft I am trying. It's a straw ornament. An elderly woman here in Wisconsin who I believe was from Germany, said that they should be made from real straw. (as they were in the "old" days before plastic)

Roses, your 'eyes' drawing reminds me of my own doodles sometimes! 😊 I sometimes come out of a reverie (or talkin on the phone) to realise I've just covered a page in little eyes... :giggle:

Mmmmm, MM, you are right! :D We should definitely head over to Tsuyoiko's! Only trouble is, her cakes look too good to eat! :liplick:

Leon: still can't listen to your things as I'm at work :(

Retro: you have a really nice sensitive drawing style, keep up the good work! 👍 -- and about adding the meaning afterwards, well, I think if you are happy with your piece you shouldn't let your friend's words make you dissatisfied... imo you should start off with an idea of meaning which inspires the piece, but if it changes or turns out different that's not a problem :-)

Satorian: wow. You must be really disciplined to be able to write a book! I've always wanted to be able to produce something worthwhile on the writing front, but my attention span is just about long enough to make sprawling posts on Jref, and no more. :giggle:

Nicky: love the interesting colour choices, especially the eyes! ^_^

Goldie: hey that really is something different! :p Is the ornament made as part of the tartan background, or did you just place it there to make a good contrast for the photo?

nobody commented on my brothers engravings there pretty unique you know there are very few people who engrave glass by hand anymore *pout*

Anywho my bros work is gonna be in an article in britians top selling Motercycle magazine
