Greetings,

I guess my reasons for coming here are of a practical nature as I'm thinking of teaching in Japan, but desperately need more information and tips.

Why Japan? I have a long standing interest in all things Japanese, starting with anime when I was a kid (in the early 80's, we had a lot of translated anime here in Québec) and gradually giving way to more complex interests as I grew up.

As a former student of sociology, I tend to have a very peculiar understanding of various Japanese social phenomenon. I often end up less interested in the "foreigness" so much as the "interpretations" of various social norms and trends as well as their underlying raisons d'être.

I also happen to love Japanese cinema - especially Anno (Love & Pop; Shiki-Jitsu; Evangelion) and Imamura (The Pornographers; Insect Woman) - and extreme Japanese pro wreestling (big fan of Abdullah Kobayashi and Atsushi Onita).

Feel free to ask me anything or pick my brains about the topics I hinted at earlier on - I find that my interests, or should I say my mix of interests tends to be rather unusual.

The day is tilting towards the alpine-lined western horizon--if it can actually be called an horizon--and allowing the coolness of another autum evening to come pouring in to fill the vaccum where a mild warmth had been. As I peer out my window here in my little office at the uni where I work, I feel as though I can see all across the whole wide world !! In fact, it's just the window on this computer that lends that sensation.

WELCOME to Jref aslpagas san !! I'm sure that you can learn a lot as you join in and share and learn with us all. There are many topics going on, so please take the time to check them...of course at your leasure. I look forward to hearing from you again !! And, I agree the social phenomena here are interesting in a lot of ways, hard to live with in others...and...in the rest, are about like anywhere else.
