Need most common japanese words

I wonder if there's a list of most common japanese words. If you search the net you'll find a hundred pages with the 1,000 most common english words. So if anyone knows where to find the MOST common Japanese words. and i don't mean the top ten words. like the top 100 or 1,000 or 10,000 or something. thanks!

Great links. I noticed that, whatever the level of proficiency one is aiming, starting with the katakana-based words is somehow encouraging.

Just because the words are "easy" and listed on a proficiency test doesn't mean they are the most often used.
