ok does nebody know chinese and tell me if it means libra (picture i first posted) ive been told by chinese ppl that it does mean libra. but i need to be sure

It probably is the same in Chinese. Just from a quick search online in Japanese there is some indication that てんびん with the meaning of balance (scales) could be written either 天秤 or 天平, for instance ふくみ天平 ?? Although I would take that with a large grain of salt based on your feedback here...

According to my dictionary (小学館日中辞典) under the entry 天秤 (tenbin) is the gloss 天平 (tian1ping2). It then goes on to give the example:

天秤で量る (tenbin de hakaru)
用天平称 (yong4 tian1ping2 cheng1)
"Measure with a scale."

That is to say, the Japanese word 天秤 is written 天平 in at least simplified Chinese. So, I would say your tatoo means "scale" in Chinese (simplified), and the Tempyou Era in Japanese.

"Libra," on the other hand, is written the same way in Chinese as Japanese -- 天秤座 -- and read Tian1cheng4zuo4.

Ajbryant thank you for calling me an idiot.(jackass). but in the end I did trust the right ppl . i asked many ppl on the streets as well as freinds that are chinese and they all say its a simplified version of libra in chinese... the tattoo parlor was voted the best in 2007. ive had my other tattoo done with them before and so my trust still stays with them as i learned that it does mean libra(simplified) in chinese . so thnk you for the ppl who quoted xcept AJBRYANT. I just went to the wrong forum and asked the wrong ppl. but thnk you all neways. man im releived that it is libra

thnk god i not dont have to fix it nemore. still a lesson learned to do some research to get some reassurance just to be on the safe side regardless even if the meaning is right and if the tattoo parlor is the best in the city. sorry again i shouldve asked Chinese and not Japanese

since i've heard getting a tattoo fixed/off (from people who've decided to not have theirs on anymore) that it hurts more to have it off than put on. that's why my opinion is to not get a tattoo in the first place.
