It looks like the inscriptions are an odd amalgam of Japanese kanji combinations, at least one modern Chinese kanji character, and a smattering of squiggles that are meant to look like kanji.
For example, on the top picture, the left-hand 5 characters (top to bottom) are 第一折鉄刀. These are five characters which exist in Japanese, but its very strange to see them together like this. If you are curious, the 5 characters might translate as First Fold Iron Sword. In my years of looking at Japanese swords I have never seen such an inscription. The next line over has two strange scribbles, and then a very well-defined 千秋 (Senshuu) which can either mean the end of things (final stage of an event, final act) or it can be a poetic way to say a thousand years. In any case it is weird to see it here, and it is suspicious that it should appear with such clarity under characters which are not clear at all. The third vertical line begins with another squiggle, then 在四方雄 which are, again, an odd combination of kanji.
The inscription on the tang is yet another enigma, with the first two kanji being illegible, and the last three kanji (亀二郎 = Kamejiro) one might consider to be someone's given name, except the kanji for "kame" used here is a modern Chinese simplified kanji, and it isn't a kanji that is used in Japan.
The sword world is full of surprises, so I could be very wrong, but in my unsolicited opinion you've got your hands on a factory-made sword, most likely from China, and someone has gone the extra step of engraving some vaguely Japanese-looking kanji onto the tang to try to make it look like an antique.

Hey, I have a short question. I was checking the definitions of 認める in the dictionaries and found this.
確かにそうだとして受け入れる。「負けを―・める」「手落ちを―・める」(from 大辞林)
and
正しいとして、また、かまわないとして受け入れる。「自分の非を―・める」「試験に教科書の持ち込みを―・める」(from 認める（みとめる）の意味 - goo国語辞書
My questions is about として here. I'm aware that として can mean "as a -role- or -in the capacity of-" (としての意味 - goo国語辞書 but I think there's also the te-from of "とする" (とするの意味 - goo国語辞書 I'm not really sure if those are the same thing, if not then which one is it in this case?
I found として受け入れる used a lot, almost like a set phrase on ALC として受け入れるの英訳｜英辞郎 on the WEB：アルク with the meaning "accept (something) as". Is the meaning here the same? i.e. The first definition - lit. "accept it/agree as -it's certainly like that-"
Any help would be appreciated.

In the first sentence, does それでも fall under the は(topic), rather then being a standalone "nevertheless/even so, ... ". I'm asking because it sounds to me like it's linked to マシだ. Maybe I'm just writing nonsense again.

You can also make it XXXで遅れている、although I think that is closer to 'backwards in something' like deficient in a subject area at school. What was the full context and sentence you wanted to use ?
