Need a word or phrase translated?

Thanks for all your help!!!

グッド・トイの選考では、まず推薦されたおもちゃをいろいろな年代の人に実際に遊んでみてもらい、専門家が遊ばれ方を見て評価をします。
Is 遊ばれ方 the same as 遊び方 but more polite?
No. That's the passive form; "the way the toy is played/how the toy is played".

Thanks!!!

Also, I'm having a difficult time understanding ながらも.
ただ、ここ数年、社員を大切にしながらも営業を上げている企業が増えています。
Could the above sentence be translated as "Nevertheless, in the past several years, there have been more and more companies raising sales while valuing their employees."

How ただ is "Nevertheless" depends on what it is being connected with. But the rest seems like a basically fine translation. 🙂:

Thanks! I'll type up the surrounding sentences for better context:

Basically, I just don't get the point of ながらも in the sentence... my thought process goes, "wouldn't ながら be fine?"

Thanks in advance!!

I can't explain it well, but you don't see ながらも very often with a verb stem in the sense of "while also doing" or to describe the lesser of two actions taking place concurrently. Adding the も seems to nearly always indicate the "even though" or "in spite of" connotation. ☝

ただ is negating an earlier assumption or set of facts so I would translate it more like "However" in this passage.

HTH ! :)

As Elizabeth-san wrote, this ながら connotes an adversative conjunction or a sense of "nevertheless/despite".

In spite of " 社員を大切にするなどと甘いことを言っていたら、経営は成り立たない", 社員を大切にしながら業績を上げている企業が増えています.

ながら simply means "while" but in this context, the two ideas e.g. 社員を大切にする and 経営が成り立つ are regarded as something contradict each other.
The author of the book wants to advocate that it is possible to maintain the both at the same time thus ながらも which implies "nevertheless".

@riceballs82

Basically, my understanding is that it is possible in theory but not common in practice, to create sentences like the following : "Terebi wo minagara mo, hon wo yominagara mo gohan wo taberu" translated as "I eat while (at the same time) /even though I am watching TV and reading a book."

But because the actions are not antagonistic, a strongly contradictory sense of eating "despite"/"nevertheless"/"in spite of" watching TV and reading a book doesn't work here. Watching TV and reading a book may make it somewhat more challenging to eat at the same time - but there is nothing about the act that normally counteracts it entirely.

In addition, this might be confusing, but just ながら without も can mean "nevertheless/despite".

Where exactly do you have a problem in understanding this whole sentence?
Could you please explain what you've got so far and which part is troublesome?

Well, I think I get the first part which is talking about the lock-in operation improving the S/N ratio, after that I get a little lost. I guess the next bit is about the DSP generated sine waves being superimposed onto the CMA outer tube voltage. Is that the right way around? And then the next bit is talking about the electron multiplier output, which is captured by the DSP, I think? But I don't really get how the そのまま fits into it. Is this all along the right lines?

Thanks in advance!

そのまま means "as it is" i.e. without any modification/change.

SN比向上のためのロックイン動作は、
DSPが発生する正弦波を
CMA外筒電圧に重畳させ、
電子増倍管出力 をそのままDSPが取込んで

SN比向上のための modifies ロックイン動作

DSPが発生する正弦波をCMA外筒電圧に重畳させ、
This clause modifies 行います
it explains how "lock-in" is done.

I have no knowledge of these technical terms so I just approach from the sentence structure but I think you got it right until ~させ.

SN比向上のためのロックイン動作は、
(as for)lock-in operation improving the S/N ratio/lock-in operation to improve the S/N ratio
DSPが発生する正弦波を CMA外筒電圧に重畳させ、
superimiposing the sine waves generated by the DSP onto the CMA outer tube voltage

I do not know what is 電子増倍管出力 in English so I put it as [A]
電子倍増管出力をそのままDSPが取込んで行ないます
DSP operates (it) taking in A without modification.

Hope the above helps you to understand the sentence.

Oh, yes. Thanks for the reminder. It may be formal-sounding, but there are cases a pure unmodified noun can be followed by ながら. Isn't も optional, though, for like 学生ながら etc ?
:?

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me to translate this sentence:

効率の良い運用の為の知識及び技術の普及啓蒙を行います

I kinda get that its talking about some kind of knowledgeable and skilled instruction leading to efficient operation. But I don't get where the 普及 comes into it. Also is it saying that this instruction will be done, or should be done, or what?

Thanks

(literally) We do dissemination and education of the knowledge and skill for efficient operation.

You can think it as 普及啓蒙を行います.

Hello, I need help translating this phrase "楽に追い払える". I understand the verb but I don't know how should I translate raku. This the complete sentence:
竜殺しの剣あれば 楽に追い払えるかも しれないけれど

"Raku" here means "easy".
追い払う+える (to drive away + potential)
楽に追い払える means to "can drive (something) away easily (i.e. without difficulties)"

そのまま means "as it is" i.e. without any modification/change.

That's a great help. Thanks. And I have one more question about this sentence:

オージェ電子分光(AES)は、固体表面の研究においては、ベーシックアイテムというべき地位にありますが、多数の分析ヘッドや処理ヘッドを組み込んだ超高真空実験装置内にあっては、できるだけ省スペースで利用したいものです。

The main problem I have is with the 省スペースで利用したいものです. I really don't understand it, or how it links in with the rest of the sentence.

I think I understand that the first part is talking about when investigating basic elements of the AES that they have a fixed position. And then it is talking about a ultra high vacuum experimental device (which incorporates a number of analysis heads and processing heads. But its that last part I don't really get. And help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If I'm right, Japanese say "Itadakimasu" before they start eating
Is there also something that is being said after?

省 means to cut out/to save (the trouble, time, energy, etc.) and often used with a noun (e.g. 省エネルギー, 省スペース), to express "to use (something) effectively to save xxx".

Core of the sentence is
オージェ電子分光(AES)は、
利用したいものです。

固体表面の研究においては、ベーシックアイテムというべき地位にありますが、
(modifies AES)

多数の分析ヘッドや処理ヘッドを組み込んだ
(modifies 装置内)

超高真空実験
(modifies 装置)

できるだけ省スペースで
(explain "how" - modifying 利用する<利用したい)

Within the ultra high vacuum experimental device the various heads already take up much space, so one should use AES as effectively (space-wise) as possible to save the space (to accommodate the heads, etc.)

I'm trying to figure out the lyrics to a song which is easy enough apart from this phrase:

"遥か未来 / haruka mirai
別れ出会い / wakaredeai"

The best I can come up with is something like meeting to say goodbye, but how does that happen in the distant future? The rest of the song is about leaving to travel 2,000 light years through space if that context helps.

This appears to be slang or netspeak of some sort.....so I don't really have any idea what it means...

タイ行きタイ!
