Hey everyone~
I was looking through my genki 1 notebook and trying to complete anything I didn't finish or didn't do or whatever. So I was doing a listening activity, and I didn't really understand the ending. Can someone clear it up for me... I think it's supposed to be this:
Tom: じゃあ、どうして先生になりましたか。
Sensei: よくわかりません。時々やめたいと思いますよ。
Tom & Mary: えぇ？！
I think that's what the end of the convo was. did the sensei say "i dont really know. sometimes i think i want to stop"

Tom's word じゃあ、どうして先生になりましたか sounds rather awkward. じゃあ、どうして先生になったんですか(the honorific form なられたんですか) would be more natural, imo.;-)

I stumbled upon a word/phrase that I can't find in a dictionary (JDICT), yet it seems to be used quite a lot (Google returns lots of examples). The word/phrase is プクーって. The fact that it's partially written in katakana seems to indicate that it's not Japanese in origin (or that it's emphatic), but beyond that I am getting nowhere...
Example of its use in a sentence: 餅がプクーって膨れる.
Any help/hint would be greatly appreciated!

の意味 - goo国語辞書
It's an imitative/a mimetic word which expresses a state that something expands, a emphatic expression "ぷくーっ" especially indicates "like a balloon."
Thus, literally, it's the state that 餅が膨らむ.

Oh... I haven't come up with anything yet - I don't have the translation. I was asked this question in a Russian-speaking forum about Japan that I administrate.
Unfortunately, my level of Japanese is not sufficient for translating such a sentence. Therefore I translated it from Russian to English and asked for help in translating it to Japanese.

What exactly does どうしようもなく add here? Can it be added in front of other adjectives? I looked up a million google examples but couldn't figure out what nuance it added just from the context, nor do the dictionaries I consulted provide any guidance.

I would translate どうしようもなく as "hopelessly".
It is an adverb derived from the adjective どうしようもない (literally "there's no way to do/deal/handle/get/take etc"), and yes, you can place it in front of adjective to emphasize the meaning of the adjective - often negative though not always.
It is also used before verb or verb phrase.
Sometimes it is used in the same way as たまらない／たまらなく.
In this case it can be interpreted as "uncontrollably".

First of all, the use of "or" in English is more encompassing. Japanese, on the other hand, has several equivalents of "or".
4 or 5 years? = "Yo-nen ka go-nen?"
4 or 5 years. = "shi-go nen," "Yo-nen ka go-nen," or "yo-nen mata wa go-nen"

Literally, the character "克."
If 克 is someone's name(or a part of the name,) it could be a friendly way to address him.

I've just started recently to learn japanese because a couple of friends moved over to japan and kind of got me into it.
There's just one phrase I can't seem to get in their last email ﾂ"Kimi wa kakkoi-neﾂ"

If it's not too much to ask, I need help on another sentence I can't figure out:
そして……あの頃は、シロがいた。
シロは、僕と恵の間を、いつも走って往復していた。
恵達とはぐれた時も、シロのあとをついていけば出会えたものだ。
そんな時は、たいてい泣きじゃくる恵と、その側で、怒っている峰雪が待っていた。
The bold part is troubling me, specially 恵達とはぐれた時も.
They're just saying you're a cool person.
