Many worry about decreased quality of education under the less stressful education. So some parents wish their kids to enroll private schools, in Tokyo area, 1 out of 4 kids are said to prepare for entrance examination for private ones.
Everyone may know this already, but more unambiguously in English, "will be continued" or "will last through, drag on for" a set period of time. The transitive form will continue something (the direct object) is 続ける。KrazyKat said:Yes, eg:

Bucko said:The following spoken sentence comes from a JLPT level 3 test from a few years back:
The following parts that are confusing me are:
と言ってた, is the final 'ta' just a spoken version of 'itte ita'?
What is the purpose of 'kedo' in that sentence? I understand that 'kedo' means 'although', but, in this sentence, although what?
Also, I can see the conditional 'node' but I can't figure out exactly what the condition is. It is:
a) because she is going to the movies she won't need any dinner,
or
b) that she won't be going home early because she's going to the movies?
Anyway, this is my guess:
'Today, when my lesson finishes, although I said I was going to return home immedietely, (I won't be) because I've decided to go to the movies with a friend. Also, I won't need any dinner.
Cheers!

And yes, 言ってた is a contraction of 言っていた.

Bucko said:Thanks Glenn!
Just another question, what does the すぐ帰ると言ってたけど part mean? Was I right to think "although I said I would come home soon after my lesson...(then an implied "now I won't be")
i.e. is there an unspoken part after 'kedo' that implies that the person will now not being going home?
Cheers!
「Oi. I've a question!」
