Where did you see that? Are you sure it isn't Chinese?
I am pretty sure it is Japanese, the first symbol definitely is, and I found a rough match for the 2nd and 3rd so I assume it is all Japanese. It is a picture I bought awhile back, I like to know what things mean before I give them a place in my house.

Those four characters are just a fragment of a Chinese poem. They don't make sense even in Chinese (in Japanese either, of course).
That calligraphy was written by Emperor Huizong, and is collected in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Do you think a national treasure is badly written?

I meant no offense saying it was badly written, I was only venting frustration that I was having a hard time finding the characters because of the writing style. Thank you for your help.

The first has been replaced in modern Japanese usage by a simpler variant: 径

The kanji in the lower left (and in the second picture) is 翩, not 舞.
The calligraphy was written vertically, and it's read from right to left. Thus, the correct order of the kanji is 迷香徑(= 径)翩. (This is a part of the last two lines of the poem 舞蝶迷香徑、翩翩逐晩風。, as I wrote in my previous post.)

The second one is 名物[meibutsu] "local specialty".

That's a symbol to represent a letter/letters in a censored/inappropriate word, just like asterisk in English. Are you reading porn, btw?
