I just saw Alexander

Any comments.

It is pretty long, and had some good moments, but
other times is was just barely Ok.

Question; The Persian army and the Indian army used archiers
effectively, why didn't Alexander army have archiers.

I haven't seen Alexander, but from the numerous lukewarm reviews to outright pans, I doubt I'll bother with it. Overall, I think that Hollywood's fixation with "sword and sandal" flicks has been less than a resounding success, given what's been in the theaters in 2004:

-King Arthur was a dog that tried to copy the down and gritty style of Braveheart and failed miserably.

-Troy was so-so, the only reason it got decent numbers at the box office was because of Brad Pitt as Achilles.

-Alexander pretty much arrived DOA at the box office, despite it's star power.

Hopefully, Hollywood will give up on flicks like those as, in my opinion (for whatever it's worth) they're just not working with moviegoers these days.

Movie Alexander (sword and sandal movie)

Overall, I think that Hollywood's fixation with "sword and sandal" flicks has been less than a resounding success, given what's been in the theaters in 2004:

-> Alexander is a good story. Its worth seeing. But the obsession with his mother and father seemed over done.

-> I watched many a great sword and sandal movie, when i was a kid

Maybe...hehe..Brad Pitt was...nice of course.
I really liked the film as the effects were great and of course because I liked the story. We read about the Trojan War in high school and I remember and we read Homer's "The Odyssey" and "The Iliad."
I also remember I was impressed about the story of a war starting because they were fighting for a woman (Helene).

if memory serves (a dicey proposition for me these days! HA!), I also had read "The Odyssey" while in high school. I also recall that it took forever and a day to read the darn thing! Still, it was good reading!

i havnt seen alexander yet, and i dont think i will ( i like the legend, and i dont want pretty boy collin farrel mess that up with his nice hair )

but as i know of america and greece is that they didnt like the fact alexander was bisexual. how is the response in japan about this? they care? or not at all? anyone knows that?

Actualy I loved the other two, but Alexander was too chronologicaly disordered to be good. they kept leaping from part to part and it's sorta like me typing here with severe sleep deprivation. my fingers have a mind of their own like the charactors seemed to have in that movie. It lacks direction, again like my typing. But then again I think Angelina Jolie was kinda scary and hot at the same time. It's like *Seduce a guard and feed em to the snake* type of scarey

I just saw Alexander yesterday and I thought it was great. The chronology wasn't at all out of order, in the whole 3 hour movie there was just one major flashback seen and the rest of it continued on a very linear, easy to follow course.

I thought Oliver Stone did a very good job of it. It was historically accurate and he tried to take an honest look at one of history's most fascinating characters. Colin Farrel was really good in the role. It was a sensitive subject, but he toed the line very carefully and made what I think was a great flick. Entertaining, moving and informative.
