Hi everyone! I am going to apply for the mext scholarship next year.
I want to take information engineering as my major in university.
And I am quite worried about my physics as the past papers are difficult to me>.<

I'm in the loftiest of my ambitions to successfully apply to Monbukagakusho: in March for a Natural Science course (Physics) :D
Thank you for the exam papers, they'll be a great help to prepare for the exams. But the actual exams are in the summer, right? That's a really long waiting procedure there. It basically takes a year to do all of this, which is ridiculous. I'm currently at my first year in the university, but my astronomy teacher told me I can start working on a scientific work in the following couple of months. Can this help me to get a Japanese university recommendation or aid me somehow in the interview? I'm thinking about doing a radio galaxies / synchrotron radiation research, though it's not apparent to me at the moment how can this be linked to Japan in any way. Well, I'd love to write a paper on the CP-violation & law symmetry topics, because that's what Makoto Kobayashi and Tokihide Maskawa researched to win the Nobel Prize. And they're from Kyoto University, and that would be a win to have a chance to study there. But, honestly, that's some mega-advanced physics they're dealing with, and I'm nothing but a noob right now...Anyone knows a good 'astronomy in Japan' lead?
 
Guys!! Does anyone remember me? I was the one who applied the scholarship and failed to get it. And I am gonna to apply the scholarship in next year.
And now I GOT A PROBLEM!!!

Since I am study in other country's university right now and my major is Japanese. (not in Japan though...)
The main point is!! Today I saw the Mext Undergraduate Scholarship Application Procedure, and find that: Recommendation from the principal or the adviser of the last school attended.
If I wrote down the last school as the university I studying now, and that will be the last school I attended???
Is that not okay to send the recommendation from my high school teacher.

But I don't know how to ask my university teacher to write me a recommendation like this... and I don't think it is good to ask them to write a recommendation for me to get the scholarship, because I am freshman and as a foreign student to study here...

Sorry to being like a big deal, but it really bother me....
Btw, I will come back to my city few months later and ask the embassy. if I told the embassy that I am study in university now, will they ask me to send the recommendation from my university teacher, and say the one from my high school teacher is not available??

As far as I know,yeah,your current school is the last school attended and thus you'd have to get one from them..But it's definitely better to ask first so you can be sure..what about e-mailing your embassy? They might say that but I really can't be sure..in any case,try to get a good relationship with a teacher or two just in case you can't get the recommendation from your high school..

It's still early so try not to stress over it too much,it'll work out ^^
 
So,guys..we've entered November meaning that people are slowly going to start getting news about whether they got the scholarship or not and from what I've heard,Mexico recieved news just a few days ago.

Has anyone else been notified yet or know of someone in another country that has?

Even if others have had news,it doesn't necessarily mean much for the ones waiting but it's somehow exciting and terrifying at the same time.. xD

I am Gaurav from India. I will be applying for the MEXT scholarship for undergraduates first time and I am bit nervous. I am solving the previous years questions and I hope that I will clear the exam.
I want to know that what extra I should do in maths , physics and chemistry so that my selection will be sure ?

u know, from what I've found out in these past years , u can predict the questions , at all ....
but the selection is different in each country ! for example in my country there are just a few who take the Japanese exam ...
just be sure ur knowledge is at least a level above other applicants like u .....

Hello everyone!

I will be applying for the undergraduate MEXT scholarship in 2016! It's my last chance since I'm currently 20 and will be too old for any further attempts after 2016.
I have some questions though that hopefully past MEXT recipients, or people currently going through the process for 2015 may be able to help me with.

I'm not clear on when your academic transcripts are viewed, is it during the first screening with your application? The reason I ask is because I didn't do well in high school, I finished with a gpa of 2.81 in 2013
I'm well aware that they are looking for candidates with more impressive academic records, which is why I was planning on enrolling at my state university for the semester as I'm fairly confident in my ability to get straight A's.
Does anyone know what academic transcript they would use after that, and when? Would it be my semester of College courses or would they continue to use my High School transcript? A mix of both perhaps? Hopefully someone here will be able to shed some light on this issue for me.

I think it depends on your country. Like I've heard in some places they ask for the paperork after the exams and in others before.
Grades don't really matter that much. They pay more attention to your results on the exams and interview~
I've also hear that there're people who recieved the scholarship and had bad school grades so don't worry about it ^^
As for what they'd ask for afterwards, I'm not really sure..
 
I'm going to apply next year so could you tell a bit more about how it went for you? How were your high school grades and test results? How was your interview? It would be different for me but its useful to hear stories. Does everyone who submit the right documents get to take the exam?

High school grades : bad
Exams : English good, Japanese okish and math failed
Interview : I honestly have no idea..can't tell ^^;
Pretty much but there are some cases where they don't call everyone but those cases are few~

I'm new here, though I've been reading this forum for almost half a year. I'm from Russia, by the way.
I've just got my result from the embassy! I passed!
I feel so happy, but just can't get rid of nasty thoughts like 'what if I won't manage to get into a leading uni', 'where am I going to work afterwards', etc.
So I decided to ask you what all of you are going to do after you graduate? What repossible job opportunities for us?
 
Another question is - will I be allowed to go back home after finishing the preparatory course without paying back all the scholarship up to the moment? Or will I also have to retern any other expences (like for tickets or studying in the JLC)?

Thank you very much for the response Squishy! It's encouraging to hear that I still may be given the opportunity to take the exams/interview despite my bad high school grades. I definitely made mistakes in school when I was younger and would hate to miss out on a great opportunity like this because of those mistakes.
Squishy would you happen to know how many years of transcripts they request? I've read they request 3 years worth of transcripts, is this correct?
Regardless I will still apply and try to better myself for the exams, Squishy I will pray for you so that hopefully you will receive the MEXT scholarship!

Also does anyone happen to know if they review any kind of past work/volunteer experience and take that into consideration, or is it purely the old transcripts, exam results, and interview results? My resume is many times more impressive then my high school transcripts ever were.

Umm..I don't think they do..it's just the papers and your exams and interview..I guess you could ask the embassy though,just in case ^^

Hello everyone and PandaPufff, I did the same as you, I've been reading this forum for almost half a year. I'm from Paraguay (little country from south america) and I got my results from the Embassy on Monday! I passed too, barely I think but I passed! :D It's a huge success for my and the embassy because the last person who passed the examinations in my country did it 9 years ago.. :S This year I was the only to barely pass.. So the embassy was pretty happy about it..
The embassy told me there are going to be 121 students from around the world this year... Only about 10 from america as a continent and lots from asia (singapur, thailand, etc.)

They told me we'll be given math/physics/japanese classes the first year so I think they'll prepare us so we can join a high profile university...
I've been investigating a lot and it is very improbable to enter a "not high profile university".. Because having passed the MEXT examinations gives yo already a free pass (no more examination needed) to many high profile universities (National 7) like Hokkaido University and Kyushu University, etc... Even though they are not as recognized as Tokyo daigaku, they are both from the Elite 7 universities... Tokyo Daigaku does require further examinations.
I personally didn't though about the work afterwards think because I also wan't to get a scholarship for my Doctorate afterwards.. (Probably Germany though)

Do social sciences applicants enter both math exams? I'm going to apply to business administration.

Hello! I'm from Italy. I've got some question about the scholarship, I hope this is the right place to ask!
I apologize in advance if those question have already been asked (and for my bad english).
On the italian Embassy's website is written that you have to be enrolled at a non-japanese university to be able to apply.
So there is no way to get the scholarship right after high school and go study directly in a japanese school?
It's probably a dumb question but I've been wondering about it.
