Ok,thanks a lot! ^^
Aah,well..not far at all really..I got it printed blank today and I'm gonna fill it in with a pencil and probably meet with the lady at the embassy so she can tell me if I've got it done right and then I'll fill in the "official" copy..I really need to get a move on.. ^^;
We're gonna look for doctors and I think I'll go for the recommendation after the doctor issue's taken care of..
What's left for you to do? ^^
 
Right now i just need a medical certificate really :)
I hope the doctor part doesnt take a long time though. I was thinking about applying for the special training scholarship instead for a couple reasons. One reason being that the exams, especially math, are easier. but idk how to get a design job in japan so im going for the undergrad still lol

What exactly is the special training scholarship? I didn't know it existed.. ^^;
 
The special training scholarship is where you go into more of an in depth field, I think. You can major in design, cooking, and such.

Hmmmm that's actually a good question........ I cant say for sure because I have no clue but knowing the Japanese they wont give us any formula sheets so I would suggest learning your formulas just in case.Does anyone know if any formula sheets are given for something like physics even?

Well, we all like Japan, but it isn't perfect. So I suggest looking into costs, climate, etc before you go there. Look into what is polite and what is impolite and stuff.
And about applying, well, I need more info on that. I can say right now to write neatly of course if you are handwriting your application.
Hmmm, make sure you have no spelling/grammatical errors.
Make sure you follow the document guide(at the bottom of guidelines page) perfectly.
 
Someone feel free to correct me, but I think it goes like this:

Stage1: Document Screening
In this stage, you send in your documents and they look over them. I'm not exactly sure what makes you pass the document screening, however. What can make you fail it I think is your transcript. I've heard before that grades dont matter so much cause people still got in. I think that once you get to D's and F's it's a bit concerning. Other things to make you fail are poor handwriting, and not following application procedures correctly.

Stage 2: Exams/Interviews
These are important as well. At least you no longer have to be all jumpy about sending in your documents anymore haha. But the exams are hard obviously. I'm assuming you already know which exams you have to take. So, study hard for those, and practice interview questions. Were being compared to all the other applicants around the world.

Stage 3: Wait
If all goes well in Stage 2, I think your embassy/consulate calls you to say youve made it pass that first screening and that they will send your documents to MEXT for final selection i think. Ive heard that undergrad people receive an OK sometime in December, but my consulate says February.

Stage 4: Yay You Got It
Eventually you should be told that you got it if you got it. In my case, I get told I'm a grantee in February, accomodations/plane ticket/etc are made in March, and sometime between April 1st and 7th i go to Japan!

Have any of you looked into the cost of food and utilities in Japan?
I keep forgetting to or have forgotten what I had read.. ^^;
 
Yeah Squishy i looked into the costs. Chiba Uni's international support desk has a page for costs of things. it may not be up to date but it provides a general idea of how you will spend your money :)

When I went to Japan and visited a few universities, the food in the cafeteria(?)s gave you sizable quantities for like 500Yen.
 
According to their list,the prices are pretty decent..Ok,they'll probably differ a bit depending on the city but still..

Btw,how soon do you think a laptop and cell phone will be needed after you've moved to Japan?

Well, with a cell phone from Japan you can text Japanese people and you can pay maybe lots of money to do international calling unless you use Skype or Line etc.
Ill just tell you what i plan on doing.
I plan on going to Japan with my laptop and american cell phone.
With my american cell, i can still use wifi to contact my family using skype. So itll be more of a mini laptop.
As for my laptop, itll be also for skyping but also for school work.

As for when it will be need, i think you should bring your cell phone from home at least if it can use wi fi. So in case you are kind of lost(which is rare im assuming), we have each others skype usernames and we can contact each other. For example, my phone and most others i think will pick up any wi fi connections nearby.

By the way, Squishy, its difficult sending our progress from Line to jref so can i send it to your email??
 
Sounds pretty good,though let me warn you,most of the stuff I've read says that it's pretty rare to pick up free wi-fi in Japan.. >.<

I don't think you really need to take your laptop as Japan has special discounts for students in April for these kinds of things so it will be relatively cheap for us students and besides as a bonus you could take extra stuff in the space saved and I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of hunting down an adapter due to my laptops plug not matching those of Japans sockets(I'm not being lazy its really hard to find them there apparently)
 
If anyone was wondering it looks like we won't be given any formulae sheets for the tests. So goodluck everyone and I hope you dig trig ;)
