MEXT Scholarship (Graduate Students) 2017

Sorry, I didn't understand it was the same as me. Are you also applying to KyoDai?
Don't worry, I was just saying in case you didn't notice! I'm not applying at Kyodai, but they also asked me to pay the fee (14,000 yen, almost the same as yours, but a bit smaller haha :p).
Did they ask you to pay right away? In that case it might be the same for me, actually I was not sure... I thought that we will have to pay only in case MEXT confirm us there...

I think the results are out in Philippines too. I saw a few applicants posting about it on facebook. :D
Hi, indojindesu. May I ask where you were able to see these posts about the interview on facebook? Is it through some MEXT group? Hope you could link me. Thanks! :)

I am sending the documents to the third university, they ask me all the documents I sent to the embassy but there is one I cannot recognize:
Application for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship
Application for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship (separate)

Is this the Application Form, right? But what about the other one...? It is the same except for "separate" (or Japanese 別紙) in the brackets. If it may helps, here are the full names in Japanese:
日本政府(文部科学省)奨学金留学生申
日本政府(文部科学省)奨学金留学生申請書(別紙)

As far as I can tell, there is no other form to download on the university's page for MEXT applicants!
Best way to get your doubts cleared : Ask the University. :D

Yes, I have to pay before August 10th. And they were really clear that if MEXT doesn't choose them as my university, then it's lost :(

I've been in contact with KyoDai and they want me to go there directly to the masters, no research student status. I've been asked to pay the admission fee of 15,000 yens and send the application material... If I were to be chosen by MEXT to go to KyoDai will I be getting back that money? T_____T
Woah! Thats awesome! Congrats! Try asking them when are you supposed to pay it and if it will be refunded. Because usually Embassy recommended applicants are not supposed to pay, and if they do pay they are refunded after the Scholarship period starts. I would pay the fee if it was my first choice. High chance of getting placed there.

EDIT: just saw your message. That is weird but again, If it was my first choice I would pay. But that also depends on my financial situation i guess. Ask about the refund. Do you have a professor there? Try talking with him/her about this. Ask if its normal. I haven't heard of/read about such case before.

About the waseda thing, try calling them. If you have a professor there, tell him/her that they aren't responding and send a mail with your professor as cc to waseda.

Just wanted to be sure no else had the same problem, but I guess you are right :D I think I'll send them all the documents except that one and at the same time asking for details!

Oh no, that means that I misunderstood their e-mail and probably it is the same for me... geez I already replied to their e-mail!
This is really a bad news, it is not even my first choice and 14,000 yen are a lot... we are not even 100% sure to get the scholarship at the end!

Hello. I have a question about private universities. If I get a letter of acceptance from a private university and put it in my choices for the embassy. Are they gonna ignore it as I read on some blog posts or is is just nonesense ?

They wont ignore the LoA, but the chances of you ending up at the private university are less because MEXT prefers national and public universities.

I think the separate sheet is your research plan and the main one is the application pages.

The research plan was specified among the documents to send but with a different name, the only documents they didn't ask for were the letter of acceptance form, the recommendation letters from my home university and the abstract of thesis, but except the first of one I sent all of them to be sure.
In my e-mail I asked for more details, I think I can only wait... unfortunately today is Saturday so probably no news until Sunday :\

If it's not the research plan then it's the placement preference. I distinctly remember a file with that name.

They also ask for the placement preference separately (which I do not have, anyway! In my country the deadline for it is in September). I think that at this point I can only wait, the good thing is that they specified in the e-mail the most important/urgent documents and this was not among them.

Dude, I literally just looked at the file and that's what it is. It is the placement form. They apparently specified it twice.

Are you a member of this group too? I saw a person comment there with a name similar to your username :D Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship Applicants Public Group | Facebook

Hello indojindesu. I don't think so. The posts of the Filipino applicants in that FB page were actually asking if others were informed already of the results. They're still in the waiting game. I personally know other applicants who are still waiting.

I think the result should come out out this week already because it's gonna be too tight to request for LOA past the second week of August.

I'm guessing they will also send an email to those who did not make it to the cut so these applicants can proceed with their other plans. :)

Will keep everyone posted!

My plan B is to touch base with the professor who I have been working with for the past two years and ask if he'd be willing to support my university recommendation application. :)

Oops! sorry, my bad! I thought they were out already!

I have one more question. Would the money be enough to live in Tokyo ?

I think they increase the stipend a bit for the students who will live in Tokyo (or other big cities, expensive ones) not sure though.

From the guidelines (seriously everyone, read them):

"Under the fiscal 2016 budget, each grantee will be provided monthly with 143,000 yen (Research Student course), 144,000 yen (students enrolled in a Master's programme or a professional degree programme), or 145,000 yen (students enrolled in a doctoral programme). An additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking study or research in specially designated regions."

2 or 3,000 yen extra a month isn't very much. You can spend that on one large meal with drinks.

You should have enough for to live on in Tokyo as long as you don't have a dependent partner or child you plan to take with you. The biggest variable is the rent - if the university provides you with a cheap dorm place you will save a whole lot of money. They usually do offer some kind of dorm. If not you will probably be spending at least 50% of your stipend on accommodation each month and will have to be quite frugal to live within the scholarship amount. Transport costs can also add up quickly.

Having said that, Kyoto and Osaka are not really much cheaper overall so I wouldn't base your choices just on that. It really depends on your lifestyle.

To all Filipino research scholarship applicants. I just called the embassy and the point person said there will be VIPs who will come over to the Philippines. There will be a slight delay in the release of the embassy screening results. Hopefully early next week.

Don't give up just yet. :))

I am always kind of bummed that I was not accepted to Kagoshima University - where an excellent researcher in my field is - when I think about how much money I could bank.

Alternatively, I had always hoped that there would be a leading expert at Nagasaki University, or somewhere on that side of Kyushu even near Fukuoka, so that I could live down there on the scholarship. As I am not planning on doing a PhD in Japan, it wasn't NECESSARILY required that I go to a big name school ... but alas, the archives and conferences are all seemingly in Kansai and Kanto, so ....

I should also confess that my heart truly lies in Kyushu.

Hello every one,
It's nice to hear all these good news, getting LOA and replays from professors.
I got LOA from 2 institutes and 2 universities, i received 2 LOA til now, but they will be as a backup LOA, at the institute i wanna go, the professor and the admission office promise me to write LOA. but i didn't receive it yet
I advice every one to get backup LOA in case things go bad.

Best wishes

Kyushu is pretty big and with a number of distinct regions and cultures (these are, for the record, a few of the aspects of it which made me fall in love with it) - where are you talking about, specifically?
