MEXT Scholarship 2014

Congrats to the people that are in Japan right now!

I just had one question...

They ask for the school's qualifications (the certificate) and the recomendation letter translated to English... Do you guys translated yourself? I can do it, and the embassy says that It's ok If I do it, but for the people that do the selection, is it the same?

Do you think is better If I do it with a public translator? (They can certify the documentation)

Hey there~! Is anyone here applying Mext through University recommenation? :3

Hey!
Yes, I'm applying for October 2014 admission. I'm still waiting to get the results from the University selection process though. What about you?

I'm still waiting for the university selection results from Osaka University. They said they're going to be out in early April, so any day now. Then the final MEXT results, the same as yours around late June.

I think that I'm gonna become crazy. The waiting until late June is killing me

Did you receive any answer from your University?

I know, waiting is so baaad. But well, there's nothing we can do but be very very patient :)

The university has let me know that they sent the results by mail this week, so I'm hoping to get their letter with results next week!

Did you also receive results on paper or was it an e-mail? (the e-mail way seems so much easier, faster and more convenient...)

you are right, the only thing that we can do is to wait....

I received the answer by email, but I had to send the MEXT application form by post mail after receiving the University acceptance.

I just received the results by express mail. I was accepted to Osaka University!! :) Now we have to wait until the end of June when MEXT announces the results.. it's going to be such a difficult wait! So close to the goal..

Do you know if there are many people who are rejected at this stage? Because it seems quite safe, but I don't want to get my hopes up...

Also, did the university give you the recommendation order (ツ鞘?。ヒ??, that is if you were recommended as 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc? My letter doesn't have this information but I found on this forum that in previous years some people had this information.

Cheers!

Congratulations !!! 👍

I don't know what are our probabilities during the next stage, but both of us received a recommendation from two of the best universities in Japan. That increase a lot our opportunities

I didn't receive the recommendation order (ツ鞘?。ヒ??...

Oh gawd I'm so happy this thread is still alive. Yeah, I applied through University and also waiting for the final results. I applied through Tsukuba University. How about you? Do you have any idea when the official results will be released? XD

Oh I wasn't able to read the latest posts, so we have to wait until late June :( I also received my results through email. I saw the names they recommended (including myself) but I don't know if there was a particular order :O so anyways, good luck to all of us!! Anyone here from Tsukuba U? XD

Thanks! I don't know how many throughout the the university, but for our college, there were three of us that got recommended. :D

Wow only three of you. I don't know how many people was recommended with me to the MEXT.

But I think there are more. There's someone else here got accepted from Tsukuba U but not in my college, so there might be more. Hey, how's your Japanese? Are they gonna let us study Japanese in the first months?

My Japanese it's poor at lees the writing and the speaking, but I'm studying really hard to improve it

My graduate program is taught in English, but I'm sure that we will receive Japanese lessons at our universities for the daily routine

Hey guys,

I've just found an interesting link. It's about Kagoshima Univ. but may be a hint for us.

University Recommendationツ(Research Studentsツ) - Kagoshima University International Cooperation International Student

It seems that over the years the university for "university recommendation - general admission" has been choosing a bit higher number of students, and sometimes not all of them were admitted. On the other hand, in case of a special programme, such as e.g. in this case called PGP, the university nominates a fixed number of students, all of whom are admitted. I don't know if I'm clear enough, but maybe it'll help someone :)

That's a good link there and very informative. But I don't quite understand what PGP would mean and how it differs from the other program. Does this mean you're in the PGP if the results will be released in June? :?

PGP in this case means International Priority Graduate Programs (just like it says nex to the abbreviation on the website ;) ) which in Japanese is expressed as 窶愿≫?「テ翰徃 as well as ツ坂?

It seems that University Recommendation is divided into ヒ?ェ窶敕翰徃 (general) and 窶愿≫?「テ翰徃 (special programme) and how I understand it, is that the ヒ?ェ窶敕翰徃 (general) means regular "research students" who applied directly to a university, yet without a specific programme in mind (? just a guess though) while the 窶愿≫?「テ翰徃 (special programme) indicates those applying to a specific programme at a university, which is one of the ツ坂? I'm not sure if that's correct though.. the part about the results (June -> PGP ?) is especially vague...

Here is a lot of information about it, but in difficult Japanese, so beware :)

Oh gawd  I'm not yet in that level of Japanese!! I'm just an N4 passer in JLPT.
I know Google is not reliable, but I'll just leave it to Google to try and understand this :D

Thanks again for the information. :joyful:

I know it is difficult.. what I did find interesting though is point ツ(6ツ)ツ絶?樞?櫓窶ーテや?拿ツ人ツ絶?昶?堙才?遺?ーツコ窶堙娯?堙??堋ィ窶堙ィ窶堙??堋?窶堙ゥツ。 (The possible number of student recommendations). It says that the number of students recommended in 窶愿≫?「テ翰徃 (special programme) is fixed and judging by Kagoshima Univ. quota, these students are usually(always?) admitted. However, the number of students recommended in ヒ?ェ窶敕翰徃 (general) is determined by a number of foreign students enrolled in a particular university and other factors specific to each university, which may mean that MEXT does not know how many students each univ. will recommend each year, and that may be the reason why some people in this forum were rejected in this last stage, simply due to number limitations. I don't know.. it's all very complicated.. that's how I see it now. :)

We should probably just wait and see ;)

Hello Guys, Thanks a lot for the link It's quite interesting because that is the call for the universities. That is the first hand information :)

My graduate program is into the list of PGP, for that reason I have to wait until late June (there are less than 10 weeks to that date) into the web of the program says that they recommend 10 students to the MEXT and during last years have been accepted 9 or 8 students... Maybe the MEXT don't accept all the students or the Graduate Program don't recommend all the 10 students... there are many possibilities.

The only way to know is to wait, we must be patient and don't lose our hopes to study next semester in Japan :)

Hello guys,
My name is Raj - India.
I applied for a Uni Reco MEXT at Kyoto U in January and after email interviews my Prof notified me that the University cleared my application.
The Univ would recommend me to the embassy and that the acceptance would be out by April end. He said that the embassy generally accepts all students that the Univ recommends.
As the end draws near i am getting more fearful when i see my inbox empty.
Does every university have a different notification date?
Anyone else here who has applied to Kyoto U?
Regards.

I found a link in English regarding the PGP thing: The International Priority Graduate Programs (PGP) -Advanced Graduate Courses for Internarional Students-:文部科学省

Is your course in there ovargasra? I think I'm in the general thingy. Haha clueless

Thanks for the link. However, note that the list is not up to date . It's the list from 2006(2007?) year and it seems they change the programmes every year. I couldn't find an up-to-date list in Japanese either.
