Has anyone here actually received final confirmation yet? Especially interested if anyone has heard from the UK - had a look through the thread and there don't seem to be many of us!

As for me, I'm still waiting. Heard from my advisor some time in December that MEXT had approved my application but that this wasn't yet a final confirmation of my scholarship. Mine is for postgrad (masters) by the way.

my advisor told me that they are waiting for the education and culture liason,who is coming back from japan on monday and he is going to bring the final confirmation along with the LoA,i guess it depends with the country,some guys have recieved final confirmation,so just hang tight... As for how many you Britons are,i wouldnt know,but i used to talk to this girl,and she got in,so idk

Not overly concerned as I've had a look through the threads from previous years and it looks like people have found out from December all the way through to Feb (in some occasions!). Just feeling a little tense as the wait draws to a close!

Same here... I received a similar email from my application Lab at Tokyo Tech in November/2013.

I was actually visiting one of my proposed labs (for masters) in Tokyo when I got an e-mail from Todai informing me that as a MEXT scholarship student they needed to know my plans for where to live. After a bit of back and forth with the Todai administration and my prof, it turns out they have given me their final confirmation and are simply awaiting MEXT to acknowledge it and that for all intents and purposes I've been confirmed (In fact, my second choice university apparently already knew I was confirmed for Todai and thus not going to them as well somehow).

After talking to another friend of mine who is also applying for a MEXT scholarship at the same time but knows personally the professor who he's going to be working with, MEXT should have already contacted at least your first choice and barring any delays they probably have already made a decision and at least someone in the university already knows and could possibly tell you whether or not you've been accepted by them. Though I did receive an email from the embassy telling me to refrain from contacting the universities and asking them, so its up to you if you want to try and ask.

I had only one letter of acceptance from NAIST (Nara Institute of Science and Technology), and they have contacted me in December to tell me that I have passed the second screening and that we will see each other next year (meaning that it is sure from them that they will accept me) . The only thing is I still can't be 100% sure before I get a positive answer from the embassy.

The embassy over here tells me confirmation should come in Feburary (at least for the research student ones, undergrad may be a different date).

Also sradevski I hope you enjoy NAIST, it seemed like a pretty nice place right inbetween Kyoto and Osaka. It was actually my second choice university.

HI everyone, yesterday I got an email from Waseda (my university of choice) sending me information about my flight, orientation and housing. I guess this means I am confirmed?! It was an email addressed to MEXT scholarship recipients

I haven't heard from my local embassy as yet since they told me that they would contact me in early February.

Hello!

So I finally got my confirmation letter!

I was told I have to go sign the pledge and I'll be informed about the plane tickets and viza later on.

I'll be studying in Bunka institute of language (窶｢ﾂｶ窶ｰﾂｻﾅ?Oﾂ坂?佛津ｪﾂ静ｪ窶禿･ﾅ?wﾂ校) Bunka Institute of Language the first year. It's in Tokyo! Hope to see fellow students out there!! ^^

Hmm, first year is in Tokyo, not sure about the other ones, since MEXT will chose the school afterwards. But for now 3 years. If I graduate in flashing colors, it's possible to apply for another scholarship to continue the studies, but we'll see XDD

Hi there,
Just got a call from my local embassy informing about the final outcome.Guess what??? I MADE IT...
Heading to Kyushu University as grad. student.
