MEXT Scholarship 2014

hey guys...how much gap was there between the last date of submission of applications and the exam dates in your country..it will give me an idea of how much time ill have for the preparation of the exams because right now im focusing only on my research proposal.
 
hi msf, in our country, applicants only had 11 days from the date of submission to prepare for the exam. 🍜 Good luck! ^_^ What are you applying for? 👍

How are your preparations and exams going?
I had my exams yesterday, but were too lazy to write here.
I took the ones for special training college, but I heard some things about the problems for undergraduate and research students.
First of all, English seemed to be quite tricky, so please do get prepared. No one mentioned anything in particular, except that they should've gotten ready for it more.
Japanese... 2 hours of 3 levels of it. First is beginners, then intermediate and advanced. MAJOR SUPER NOTE: You will have to write readings for the kanji yourself AND you'll have to WRITE THE KANJI ITSELF. Yes, this wasn't in the exams before as far as I know, but please take notice of this!!!!
Mathematics - sorry, can't help much, because all I saw was people staring at the exams and turning in blank sheets. I really hope you'll do better than them!

I am going to have my exams next week and I would like to know how was your English test. Was it like the 2010 one or like the others we can find on the internet ? (with an exercice with incorrect sentences or part of sentences ?).

Concerning the interview, I've read on several websites (don't remember which ones) that they may ask you why do you want to study in Japan ? What do you know about Japan ? Can you introduce yourself (your studies, jobs...) ? Which university you want to enroll and why ? That's sort of questions. They want to know if you know the country well and if you are motivated enough to deserve to receive the scholarship ;)

Hello!
I tookexams for the special training college which are completely different from undergrad/ research. If you want to know about the later, sorry, can't help you D: Nobody said anything in particular about the exams. But YES, all of them were back to the old system, forget about the 2010 ones. :D
And if you want to know about the college ones, than there were 3 types of exercises. Grammar - choose the right answer, line up words given so the sentence would be correct and lastly, reading, which was pretty simple.

Oh and thank you so so so much for the questions! I'll try to practise my Japanese with these <3333

I wrote to the embassy to ask about my exam results. They were as following-
English - 79/100 (WHAT!? SO LITTLE WHYY)
Mathematics - 68/100 (Well... I honestly hoped for better, but as far as I heard, others got ~17, so yeah.)
Japanese - 263/300 (Awesome, I was able to get more than half of the questions right in the awfully difficult advanced part! XD)

The lady at the embassy said that my results are pretty good. You call this good? Does it mean I can rejoice? XD;;
Anyways, best of luck to everyone still to take the exams! Don't let the English exam ruin your mood like mine did! 8DD
 
I am amazed of how fast they correct the exams ! Congratulations for your results, especially in Japanese !
I know I shouldn't let the English exam ruins my mood but... I'm so stressed ! My Japanese is really poor (I have never taken any lessons) so I have to have a really good mark in English ! :box: I passed the TOEIC last december and I had a pretty good mark but I find the Monbusho exam harder because of all its tricks >.<

I just got my e-mail from the embassy telling me that I passed the exams and will be having my interview on Thursday!
I'm so stoked right now (by the way, just so you know, I had a very bad feeling about my math results and didn't really do much for my Japanese test, but I passed the qualifying exams anyway :O )
 
Congratulations lasershark !! You passed the undergraduate exams, didn't you ? How was the English test ?

I realise that the system is really different from a country to an other. I am convened for the interview even if I have not passed the exams yet.

Congratulations and Good Luck.
Do you happen to know if they already notified people who passed the exams for the Research Category?
I took the exam last June 10 (Monday) and yours was June 11... I did not get any notification if I will be invited for the interview.

@spectre1010: I heard from someone keeping tabs on some research and undergrads that the research students already got their calls/emails.
@Julie29: Yup, I did, surprisingly enough. English was pretty simple, just keep an eye out for the grammatical errors in a certain section (which requires you to spot them), sometimes you don't know they're there until you read the sentence a few times. Good luck!
 
@lasershark : Ok, thank you for your piece of advice. I know which section you're talking about and... I hate it >.< And in the second exercice, do you remember if there were some difficult idioms ?
 
@Julie29: I don't recall any particularly difficult idioms. It's the incorrect grammar section and the reading comprehension section you need to look out for the most.

Congrats! Was the math, phy and chem similar to the previous years? What's next after the interview?
 
Um, humanities student here, so I only took Math A, Japanese and English. After the interview I believe they'll be sending the documents over to the Monbukagakusho in Japan (since all this stuff so far was just embassy screening) for the final screening.

How was math A? Similar to the 2010 paper? . This is pretty awesome Congo!!
 
To a certain extent. There were no diagrams this time though, so you'll have to spend time drawing those in the rough paper they give you so you can get a good grasp of the question.
