MEXT Scholarship 2014

Hello everyone,
I'll appearing the MEXT examination this year and would really like to know if there's anyone who has solved the physics 2010 paper
how were the examination questions of 2011 and 2012.if anyone knows then plz help. .

A quick question about a few things on the application: (undergrad)

What is 'present status with school attending or employer?' If I'm to graduate within the month, do I write 'enrolled' or 'Graduated'?


Finally, how much writing should I do for each of the questions? Are they looking for short answers or detailed paragraphs?

I'm probably overthinking, but I'm really nervous! >_<;

For present status you write your current status. So, because you haven't graduated yet, write something like "Studying at (where you are studying), expected to graduate (when)."

Can't help with your second question because I didn't apply for the undergraduate level, but my advice in general would be to make sure you answer the questions correctly regardless of how much or how little space it takes to do so. :)

However, I'm not sure his methods will be correct, although his answers are correct.
Especially the magnetic Part IV- Q5 question makes me worried. :eek:
My method to find B is using differential forms of B= (u_0)I/(2pi)r (ie., differentiate this B, you will get dB= -[(u0)I/(2pi)r^2]*dr) and integrate this differential over r=[r-b,r+b]. Since I don't think they expect us to know the Bivot-Savart differential definition of B and form double integral calculus, though it's possible (very unlikely I think).
If anyone knows a more appropriate solution for high school students since this exam is also for non-undergraduate student, please let me know.

E = BvL and B = u0I/2pid

Substitute for B and calculate the current in each length of the wire and add them together and you get (2). I can take a picture of the working and upload it if you like, and this is probably the easiest method.
But still it is in no way something they can expect high schoolers to solve in 3 minutes.(It took me a good 10 minutes)

I'm averaging low 80s in most of my subjects and that's a massive worry for me when the exam's in a week...

Finally, my argument is using "AB remains parallel with current I"
So "each pair of points" on BC and AD satisfies
F_magnet = F_electric (all positive charges go to BC and the same amount of negative charges go to AD)
-> qE = qvB << this equation are used for all pairs in BC vs. AD
and |E|=V/d= IR/d across all pair.
However B is not uniform (if B is uniform, total B is equal to B*total length BC or AD), so I need to integrate dB over [r-b,r+b] to include all pairs on BC and AD and R should be somewhere between BA or CD.
By the way, do you do all the past exam problems (2010-2007)? Now I got stuck a "mirror-refraction" problem and need some help.:?
 
Hey there.

If you put the two equations together you get E = 2u0Iva/2pid = u0Iva/pid (BC and AD don't induce currents)
Since you're looking for the current, you put in V(or E)=IR and since I=E/R you get I = u0Iva/pidR
Current is induced from AB and CD, so you calculate the current induced separately by replacing d with r-b and r+b
Once you get the two currents just add them together as fractions and then on it's just algebra.
Was that clear or do I actually need to take a picture and upload?

And I haven't done all of the physics papers yet, there's just so much that isn't covered in A level and I'm trying to get those sorted first. And the sheer number of trick questions(at least that's how I see them) is really annoying me in physics and maths.
But yeah light refraction/reflection isn't something that is covered properly either so I'll have to study those before I tackle the questions.

I'm not sure why we can add E together and got u0Iva/pid since each E has different d (are you adding E's in BA and CD?).
I try another method (may be the same). First note that I's induced in BA and CD are in the same direction (bottom->up) implied by Lenz's law but I_BA > I_CD since B at BA is stronger than at CD (B's inversely proportional to r). So I_circuit= I_BA - I_CD = [(V_BA) - (V_CD)]/R << assuming that R_BA = R_CD = R.
Substituting V=BvL and B=u0I/2pir, we will get the answer.

Note that the assumption R_BA=R_CD=R doesn't quite work. Since if R_BA=R_CD=R, total R would be 2R instead of R. But otherwise, you would not get the answer from this method. Maybe the question is not rigorously defined enough. :?

You're looking for the current, so you calculate the current from the EMF with V=IR, and add the two currents up.
I'm aware there's so many factors that aren't taken into consideration but that's really the best we can do.

did you solve 2009 chemistry (I) Q 4 and Q5.... i didn't get hold of any idea to slove these..

By the way, can anyone solve Physics 2009 questions 3.4 and 3.5? I really have no idea how to approach it.

Hello guys, i will be applying for the first time (and last, i was born in 07/1992 :S) this year for undergraduate in Economics and i got a few questions;

1 - What should i answer in "12.What kind of field are you planning to study in Japan?" in the application?

2- this one is just for curiosity, how many pages your school professor/principal wrote for the recomendation letter?

3- For those who have applied for Humam Science before, do you guys did the Japanese test? how was it? i mean, you had any knowledge of Japanese or you just answered the questions randomly?

I know ZERO of Japanese, just a few common words and my fear is being reproved because of that test
 
Research Student: English tests

Hi everyone! Now I'm preparing for English test for Research Student Program. I have some problems with the tasks III in 2007, 2008 and 2009 tests (from here Government-sponsored). Could you please help me with this task? Here are incorrect sentences or part of sentences from the passages from the task (I checked with the answers). In many of them I don't know where the mistake is. But mistake must be in every sentence.

2007

1. incorrect: we can make intelligent guesses in the following lines
correct version: ?

2. incorrect: (if a Japanese man) feels the need to establishing some rapport and friendship with his bussiness client,….
correct version: feels the need to establish some rapport and friendship with his bussiness client (?)

@catiemon yup, undergraduate. I know terribly basic Japanese, but I'll try to brush up as much as I can so I have something to fill in besides my name on the Japanese exam, lol
