MEXT Scholarship 2014

Thanks. I'm very excited and busy with preparations
I will be working on mechanisms of protein transport in polarized cells (like epithelial cells and neurons).
From the very beggining I was very interested in this lab and I was thinking of applaying there during 2012 edition of MEXT Scholarship. But March 2011 was when the earthquake occured, so I wrote to this proffessor before even applaying for scholarship to find out if there is any chance he can accept me. And I got the answer "no". I was on 4th year of graduate course then and I decided not to apply and wait till next year. I applayed for MEXT scholarship 2013 edition and got the recommendation from the embassy and this time only after getting the recommendation I contacted this proffesor again. And this time he wrote he was willing to accept me. I was quite lucky - I contacted only one professor and got possitive answer. I heard people sending tens of emails without even getting any answer. I also have the feeling that when you are already recommended by the embassy when you contact professors they take you more seriously since they already have the proof you are worth something.

I am currently studying for A levels (1st year of 2) and is planning to apply for MEXT undergraduate 2014. I would like to ask what are the subjects I would have to take for the scholarship exam if I were to major in Communication and information engineering, or any IT related course. And also, if any of you know, is knowing only Paper 1(Pure Mathematics) of the A level syllabus good enough to take the exam? I applied last year for college of technology when I was graduating from O level, but I couldn't do most of the maths questions and all of the physics questions.

I called the embassy here in Mexico and they told me to wait until the 15-20 of april.

I see most people apply for undergrad which makes me wonder if my plan to go to HAL Osaka, Nagoya or Tokyo (whichever works) might be easier?HAL is a special training college and I'm wondering if it's easier for that and whether 2-3 yeas of Japanese language training would work (I think the largest problem with many people here who applied, is the fact that they under prepared their Japanese language training.

Hi everyone! I'm going to apply for Research (postgrad) scholarship this year. Do you think it is necessary to contact with the definite group or professor in advance? Do I have chance to get scholarship without contacting with professor? I chose a university and there are many groups that work in my research area.

If you are applying through your embassy i think you are supposed to contact professors after being accepted by MEXT (after the interviews etc). It wouldn't hurt to contact the groups you are interested in studying with before though, i am going to begin emailing the proffesors i am interested in studying with soonish. Don;t take my advice as given though it would be best to contact the japanese embassy in your country, they should tell you exactly what you need to do. Hope this helps

Hi again.

Applications here in NZ finally opened and now I'm getting ready for the exam and all.
So I've been wondering, what kind of marks do I need to get a direct placement? I know it sounds unrealistic but I'm shooting for Tokyo, Kyoto and TITech in that respective order for Electronic Engineering.
The exams themselves don't seem too hard but time management seems like a huge problem, and physics is probably the hardest for me.

Thank you for answering richh. I think that I'll write to the University I've chosen to ask them to check my research plan. Not sure if they will do it though

The application process hasn't started in the embassy yet, but I will begin collecting the papers as of Monday since I know what I need. I figure it's better to start early then to rush this later.

They said they can't answer questions until after the talk... that will leave so little time until everything has to be handed in.

So little time? When do you have to hand everything in?
In Lithuania the deadline's May 31st and the exams will be on 11th of June.
Knowing how slow-working everyone is in my country, I've started to collect all the papers today xD
