I'm nominated by Nagaoka university of Technology form Jan 2012 and now my friend received a notice from university to supply information related to departure time, internation airport nearly he lives, etc. but I don't receive this notice so i'm very worry about that.
Congrats guys nominated by embassy and prepared everything to go to JP

Today i have received an email from my department office with an attachment named "Principal Place of Research Report". They asked me to fill up the form and submit it by April 4. Anyone revived anything like this. btw, this is the first time department contacted me, all other previous contact was done international office.

phukhanhbk11: Do you apply master program. I don't know why i don't receive anything from Nagaoka university. I try to contact to Division of International affair but they tell me that they don't send email for student nominated by them. I apply for PhD program so I don't whether they just required add information of mater degree or not. I asked ms Chie and if i don't mistake, ms Obayashi send email for you, right?

I haven't received any news about dorm yet >< A girl who is also going by MEXT with me, has already got a room, but it is about 70 000 Yen, it's Keio dai. That's too expensive, hope mine is not that expensive >< Is there anyone, who received news about dorm from Todai?

I still have no dorm but already got visa Grampusn so I guess its okay for them.. Nagoya University told me that the class will start on April 12.. Maybe its a good idea to spend the holy week first before going to Japan if Im allowed to rebook the ticket which I dont have any news yet...

Finally, yesterday international department sent me information about dorm. It's gonna be Jasso Residence Hall in Odaiba. So it seems everything is OK! So I guess I m gonna start packing my stuff! See ya all in Japan! Good luck to everyone!

I have a question about the money exchange before arriving the Japan. I can exchange my money to the USD or Yen, but i have no idea which is more reasonable. Can anybody say something about this issue?

GrampusN, i think it will be better to have your money exchanged to yen. Anyway, you'll be spending in yen when we arrive there. just my opinion.

I think its better to exchange it in Yen. as you will be paying exchange fees only once. If you first exchange it in USD and then exchange your USD in Yen, you will be paying the exchange fees twice. At the end you have to spend in Yen. The embassy might have advised you to bring around 2000 $, you can take Yen equivalent of 2000$.

It seems expensive though, the transportation >.< and the daily necessities. Odaiba is not really residential...

Yeah its been a long process but its been well worth it. Final few weeks now, im excited to move and to dig my teeth into my PhD.
