No news here yet about the dorm. My gradschool told me not to worry. They will be looking for accommodations and will inform me as soon as they get one. No email from them until now, that means they haven't found any yet. Yikes. I am also hoping they place us in a dorm soon.

I am in the same situation. I haven't received any information about dorms from Todai yet (Graduate School of Humanities). Next week I m going to apply for visa, I already informed my company about quitting. So everything seems to be settled except dorm >< Hope their prices will fit my pocket, I heard Tokyo dorms are very expensive and has deposit system... Fingers crossed again.

P.S. By the way, I guess I found a solution to use my unlocked Iphone in Japan. Here is very useful link: S B S: Comparison of all b-mobile SIMs

No dorm....yet!!!! and i had been looking for some private accommodation price online and not to mention they are utterly expensive. Its shame Todai cant provide dorm for all of the int. students which they should atleast for a year i think. Kind of weird when you spend 60-80k per month for priv accommodation when the uni dorm costs from 9k-42k(highest for couple). its frustrating...

International department sent me an e-mail right now. They say as JASSO dorm at Tokyo closed, this year dorm information is late than usual, so they asked to wait a little more, and they would send me ASAP. So again waiting ><

No ,I did not. As they asked me to wait, i could not mail them. I thought they were trying hard but the housing section of the university has the information not so encouraging. It says "The percentage of international students assigned a single, couple or family type room, and foreign researchers assigned a single or couple type room at Todai is about 20 to 30 percent...." So every 1 out 3 students will get a dorm room.

You can buy a softbank simcard now. And considering that most students use softbank (well, foreign students I mean), it's much cheaper. And you can use the packet plan. Bmobile is only good if you plan not to call anyone

Thanks, I googled many times and the only solution for unlocked iphones (purchased overseas) i could find was about Bmobile. I didn't know Softbank sells sim cards without phones . Are you sure? Because as for my understanding I can use Softbank sim cards, only if I buy softbank's phone with sim card, and insert that sim card to my iphone. But this is not always working. Someone says it is possible, others say impossible. Well anyway, I will investigate all the possible ways and confirm only after my arrival to Japan, and I will share with everyone in the other special thread about this ^^

Thanks again, but as far as I understood from that post, those Softbank sim cards do not have mini sims, which automatically excludes iphones from this option ^^ Anyway, I am sure there is a way to use unlocked iphone in Japan and I will find it ^^

We cut our regular sized sim cards here to fit the iPhone. ) Hope someone actually tries this with softbank. I want to get an iPhone 5 in JP when it gets released....hoping that's soon.

It's true though, a lot of the scholars are on Softbank, and I myself had Softbank some time ago. I also had AU, but.... that was a complete waste of money in the days of phones with no apps. ) Softbank is dead useful because of free Softbank to softbank calls.

I'm also coming in April to Tokyo. I'm going to study in Keio SDM, but first semester i'll be attending Japanese classes in Mita Campus. I'm looking for a roommate, cause I want to rent a big two person room around 1,5km from the school (my plan is to buy a bike and ride to school). I was wondering about that as well and was going to ask all about that. I dint fill any form but the website clearly syas the process of dorm application includes filling up a form and send it to the dorm authority forwared by supervisor. I hope things have been changed as i did not do anything, neither the int. office asked me to do as well. Hope they are doing it themselves.

^ By ryugakuseika I just mean something like the international center, because I always get emails from ryugakusei.g@...... Anyway, I saw a similar ad in Japanese from the Graduate School I'm entering, and as I wrote above, I did ask them about the Jan 27 deadline, and I was told that MEXT scholars have a different procedure. So, I guess we wait This is the last thing I'm waiting for anyway, so, I'm not worried much.

anyone guys here receive notice from university to supply information anymore (after nominated by University), my friend has received that (From Nagaoka university of Technology) but I don't receive a notice . Hic, i'm very worry about that.
