as for announcement, just now I call the embassy and the embassy lady mention there will be a slight delay for document selection announcement.
she said the jury who decide just came today and that some applicant gives incomplete document to be screened. hence the delay.

Im from UGM, now im doing my master here... www.kaust.edu.sa
indeed, each professors are different, the first thing you should do is...google-stalk them. Look at his/ her website...usually the one in japanese is more update than English version. You can use googleTranslator to help you. Then, look at the "members/ メンバー" part. There, you can see how many students are working under the professor. Too many students means a bad news for you because, s/he might not need more student...so, no matter how good you are, they wont respond you. Well, some laboratories may have more members than others if they are productive in publishing articles in journals, so you better take a look at their recent publications too.

Average is probably average on the test among the people who are taking it in your country O: Or maybe average on the test in all the world? I think so at least o_o So it probably depends on how well the people who are taking the exam this year know English O:

MEXT has a standard scoring chart, and It doesn't depend on how other people do at their exams, it only depends on your performance. As long as you have the necessary score and the requirements from your embassy to be indicated by them for the Japanese government and universities, you will just have to wait for your results until it comes out.

you can go through U2U MEXT. It usually open around August-October this year, for October 2012 intake. You can...well, berbasa-basi with the professor whether he knows about u2u MEXT, and wonder if he can nominate you to the university by the time U2U selection open.

did you graduate from ITB? Are you going for master or doctoral degree in Japan?
for my case,
I graduated from UGM then im studying for master in KAUST.
I applied for TokyoTech U2U integrated doctoral program (master+doctoral) using my status as UGM graduate. I asked the previous dean to make recommendation letter and all. It works for me.

maybe you can check one more time in both your current uni website and your target uni website. if none, you can try ask directly to both your current professor in undergraduate and professor from the japan uni.

Look for english proficiency exam preparation books such as TOEFL iBT, Cambridge, TOEIC, Michigan... I was using a really thick TOEFL book here '-'

finished exam!! english was easy for me. Japanese, well, quite hard i should say!

BUT the lady at our embassy told us that the Japanese exam has no bearing at all. so if what she said is true, then guys, you shouldnt worry about it.

No Filipinos on Jref? ( Come out you guys! We gotta help each other. There is no quota, as long as we pass each stage, we will get this. Again, according to the lady!
