I have a question about とんでもない in the following sentence. Does by とんでもない and 「
そんなのはとんでもなかった」, the speaker is talking about the situation, that it was something shocking, or does he denying the fact that it was easy?

簡単だと思っていた仕事、だったのだけれど・・・・・・。 とんでもない。 簡単だなんて。 そんなのはとんでもなかった。

Context: the job that was given to the protagonist turned out to be really dangerous, he was attacked by something inhuman.

The speaker is denying their expectation "the job would be easy".

Thank you, I'm still not quite sure about そんなのは, does it refers to their expectiation 「簡単だと思っていた仕事」, or simply to 「簡単だなんて」?

I think そんなの refers to their expectation, too.
