Write a letter in Japanese?
Hello...
I was wondering if any native (or highly fluent) speaker out there could give me any pointers on good ways to start a letter in Japanese?
Of course, I guess a 久しぶりですね or 元気? can take me a long way...
but I was wondering about slightly more formal expressions (not necessarily professional either, but let's say, when writing to older acquaintances)...
Also, since we're at it, closing phrases???
Thanks in advance for any help!

UPDATE: I thought I'd answer my own question with this really useful link I finally found on about.com (I thought I had checked it all out, but apparently, it escaped my attention the first time around):
Rules for Japanese Letter Format
all in romaji unfortunately, but with a good dictionary, it should not be a problem.
