Get some books, start studying. There's not much else you can do.
I went from about zero to decent conversation and solid reading level in about two years, studying an average of an hour a day. But passing a native level entrance exam would have been well above what I could do.

Do foreign students even take the same test to begin with?
As a practical matter, the likelihood of going from zero Japanese to being able to pass a difficult entrance exam in a wide variety of subjects (and in the same time limit as native speakers) strictly through self-study outside Japan isn't very high.

If you were thinking of going as an undergraduate, look into the Monbukagasho scholarship (aka MEXT scholarship). There are several topics about the forum relating to it. Sample exams.
If there aren't classes/tutors local to you, maybe consider one of those companies that offers lessons through Skype (as a supplement, not a replacement, for daily studying on your own).

Of COURSE there's a reason...it's called I can't spell and couldn't care less about how to spell it ^^. Teehee. So is 'good luck with that' your only advice, because if so. -.- gee we got a helpful one over here.

I'm aware Mr. Cash, but it's not zero (although it may as well be) I know some basics. I also learned some French quiet easily as well as Russian hopefully Japanese is also easy.

In your zeal to make your cutesy teenybopper smart remark answers, you overlooked a very important point that I brought up.
Are you sure that you, as a foreign student, will be subject to the same entrance exam as Japanese students?
Why Kyoto University? Have you researched it and is there something you have to study there? Or did it just appear in your favorite Japanese cartoon and you thought it would be cool to go there.
My tendency toward being helpful with this kind of inquiry (which we get fairly often) is directly proportional to the maturity and degree of effort at research and preparation the inquirer displays.
(And since you asked in another thread how to tell whether Japanese verbs are masculine or feminine, it safe to characterize your practical knowledge of Japanese as "zero" because the difference isn't worth calculating).

Okay yeah, fine. You're right. I'm not sure about the exam, but I'm assuming that as a potential student I would be subject to same exam as other students. I choice Kyoto U. because it's an art and design school and I want to learn to create cartoons. There are schools in America for that, but since I also want a degree in language it'd be beneficial to live in the country where I'm surrounded by the language.

Maybe you are confusing Kyoto University with Kyoto SEIKA University or something? Kyoto University IS NOT an art and design school.

Maybe you're right. ^^> I'm generally a confused person and it is entirely likely that I mismatched the schools on accident, nonetheless I still must learn Japanese or else I'm kinda screwed. v.v

I have no clue about any of this, I just know I need to learn the language. I'll have to sit down with a few people and map out an outline. Until then...any suggestions?

JLPT N1.......oi v.v welps better get started. No I haven't spoken with them, but they aren't paying for it...so yeah.

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe part of the student visa application process is proving you have on hand sufficient funds to cover your education and living expenses while here.
If your parents aren't going to pay for your overseas education, are you independently wealthy? Have you researched student visas as I suggested?

Lol there isa site that helps me a lot. Its called Japan Activator. They have great examples and they start each lesson with a conversation so you can get the hang of it fast.
They also have a phone app called JA Sensei. That should be helpful right? :3

Even beyond a visa, the university requires that, if you're self-funding, you show in advance that you have four years of money (tuition AND living expenses).
Have you thought about looking for a US university which does a summer exchange or year abroad in Japan?

If I'm waiting for my mom to pay for it I'm not even leaving Georgia. I'm getting a job and saving every penny, getting scholarships, odd jobs...all that hoopblah. Plus I'm going my Sophmore year of college so the first year, at least, isn't something I have to worry about.
