JREF meet in Shiga - May 2013

*At this point, looking at post #175, Steve's conscience gently whispers to Steve's ego, "Hey bro, c'mon now, I thought you promised to stop trying to summarize the future!"* :)

At long last our perennial dream of "Next year let's get some chicks" is going to be realized. It would appear there is a God after all.

"Ask and you shall receive..." :)

"...just be careful what you ask for." ;-)

Praying for chicks can result in baby chickens. :-)

I'm like an old coon dog who still likes to get out in the woods and get the scent in my nostrils, Steve. I don't expect to actually tree anything.

OK folks, we're at the two-weeks to go count down mark !

I'll keep my eye here as I tidy up some final details. I hope that by this time next week, I'll have a more specific mouth count here. (well we could say, head count, but that could be technically misleading in some slangish dichotomicous ways) The day is of course, the fourth (4) of May, a Wednesday. Some will (others may) be coming the day before, or even earlier, is basically OK too. I will be doing taxi work on both days (I am at least planning on, at the moment), but hope to KICK THINGS OFF FROM 12:30ish on the 4th. We've had some problems shaking the cooler effects of the leaving winter, but by two weeks down the road, it should be good. I have asked he weather lady to save some sun for us on that day...I hope she'll keep her promise.

@mike - Yeah, I know, and the same goes for me, and probably all of us, of course. :)
Who wants to go eat out when we have high-quality love-filled Filet Mignon at home.

By the way, full-disclosure: Miyuki is single, yet, is a mother of 3 kids, her youngest daughter has recently entered University. But, Miyuki looks and acts so young, it's hard for me to believe she isn't 29. Her friend Mizuho is much younger than her. Miyuki might be seen as a little big-boned, but, just like my wife, she is more beautiful than most women: because beauty really does shine from within. The sparkling eyes, skin, hair, and smile!

Both of these ladies are admittedly in general looking for a Mr. Right for love and marriage, but I made it perfectly clear to them that this get-together is strictly a "let's have fun as friends" party, no romance involved at all. And I further explained that all of the guys coming are happily married so they understand that.

They will simply be happy to have a chance to sit and eat and drink and dance and sing and play games and talk with a bunch of Bi-lingual Bi-cultural People.

Waaaaait a second, Ashikaga, aren't YOU single? Looking for a good at-home-cook? Maybe in that case Mars Man SHOULD put your name back onto the sign-up sheet for spin-the-bottle, hee-hee! Just kidding... or am I? ;-)

@MarsMan - We'll be there Rain or Shine, Sleet or Snow! I'll bet the goddess grants your wish for some Sun!

Great, thanks for the directions. It all sounds clear enough, and it appears the wife's only worried about getting back in time for my son to get a good nights sleep for school on the 6th.

That sounds just fantastic there, Revenant san ! Please let her know that he'll be able to have such a great time here, that he'll sleep in the car on the way back, and have plenty of rest for school the next day. (but even if his sleeping hours are a little less than usual, the experience that he'll gain for his life's record, will be well worth the little sleep that he might miss. His being able to experience this will be something that his friends will surely envy him for...Wow !! All the way to Nagano, and visiting a house from the Edo period which is a historic landmark of Matsumoto city--and were there really that many Lego people, buildings, and stuff there?...is what he'll be hearing.

(of course he can play darts with us if he wants to, or Legos down stairs with the other boys...his choice)

Plus, Revenant, an added bonus of coming is that our kids, who are seen as being a mixture of two "races", who are seen as "minorities" here, can have this nice chance to play with each other, to see that they are not alone, to know fully that that they are perfectly normal members of the Human race. :)

Please do come, for the benefit of your son, my sons, your wife, yourself, myself, and everyone! :)

I'm really getting a little pissed that my vacation was canceled; all these JREF people I would love to meet in person. This sounds like it will be one for the record books. Next year! Guaranteed!

Yes, Pachipro san, I do believe it just might be one of those record years. I am working on getting worked up to kick off the work for the fourth, and I'm bet I'll have a good chance of getting it all worked enough that even Mike Cash san will be surprised. (what I mean, is I'll not be running around like a chicken with its head cut off, busy with too many last minute things that should have been done the week before... hee, hee, hee....

I'm gonna run a final check this week, to make sure I have the right count of folks, and the right schedules for arrival times, and such, and to give final directions for those who may need it. The basic area (map wise) can always be Googled (map set up) with Matsumoto, Aida. OK, catch you later.

I'll be on hand a day early anyway. Even if you get everything set up we still have to make sure the fridge is chilling the beers properly, and there's only one sure-fire way to do that.

That is absolutely right, Mike ! And not only that, but we'll need to taste test the several brews I plan on having on hand, to make sure we can describe them properly to everyone... AND, I guess we have to make sure the wines I have stored are the best for our possibly wine-drinking-lady-folk; so will have to sample of few of the vintage ones first. I can tell you all now, folks, we will absolutely kick it off around 12:30 (give or take) by raising a little hell !! (and you can mark my words here)

Is anybody else planning to come the day before? Testing the fridge is a very heavy responsibility for just the two of us. Not that we can't handle it, of course.....

I might come the day before....

Will get my bus tickets tomorrow.

That would be the best choice, Davey san. Please let me know your arrival time--through my cellphone is best (so I can always see the time easily). We had a good all day and night rain yesterday, so that should be about it for us, and next week will be open skies and warmish afternoons (I am counting on it). The evenings and mornings are still pretty chilly, though.

I'll arrive at 21:15. Is there a bus from there towards your house?

I'm looking forward to finally joining the party.

I was hoping to make it this year, but taxes ate up the remainder of my savings.

Yes, Davey san, there is a bus that runs from the get off bus stop, to my house, it's the Mars Man Line (a kind of quantum non-local, non-linear transfer-point integrated vehicle system). Also, you can eat dinner here--unless you want to go ahead and get something at one of the rest area stops that the bus will make in Komagane (about 90 minutes before getting to the Matsumoto area).

Mike Cash san, that means we'll have to do most of the fridge testing ourselves--but we could save a few tests for Davey san too.

I'm sorry to hear that ArmandV san, it would be nice to have had you here raising hell with us too. There is surely a next year, however--please keep that in mind.

Ah crud! Currently trying to figure out the logistics of getting back to Okayama for a May 5th practice game my son has. The wife seems pretty bent on him not missing that.

school on the 6th.
May 5th practice game.

D'oh! Seems like an unfortunate "re-neg" (re-negotiation) possibility?

Well, perhaps you guys could come for just a few hours on the 4th? :)
Or, perhaps you guys could stay for 36 hours, by arriving on the 3rd? :)
Or, perhaps you guys can imagine and create a compromise solution? :)

Dunno, she's making sure the ETC card is still valid, so she seems to be working towards the meet up anyways.

Five days and counting !! First, the news:

The weather lady seems to be working something out for us, we had another good rain most of the night, last night, and the air is warmer now. My guess is that she's getting all the atmosphere ready for a warm, rather clear, but maybe with a tad bit of wind, Wednesday for us all.

The dozo will not be 100% ready by Tuesday morning, but it will pass (maybe giving a bit of an insight to how the Mars Man leads a normal, day to day busy life style?). The BBQ area will be ready by Tuesday afternoon, as I will need Mike Cash san's help with making sure my knots are tied properly, as well as helping with the stage set up (stage? say what?!) and taste testing --which I will pass on until ]Davey san arrives.

Tent and other sleeping areas will basically be planned out by Tuesday morning, and will kind of be a first-come-first-choice-after-having-given-consideration-for-the-lady-folk-first basis. The refrigerator will be pregnant by Monday night, and all other supplies ready to go. EVERYTHING IS GO on Mars !!!!

Revenant san, you've gotta do it, man. You've gotta get her to go along with the plan. Please do keep in mind Mike Cash san's second line in post number 3 on page one. All you've gotta do is make a good sounding plan to get here and back on time for that basketball practice, and then, once you've all gotten here, and have started enjoying, she'll be like a fine piece of origami paper that'll be foldable into any possible future... and so if that one practice is missed, no big 'in a lifetime scale' biggie. Missing only one, even with that situation, and it just being your son, who probably doesn't really need any extra practice himself, being as good as he is, is surely gonna be no problem. However, make your leaving plans as though you'd be able to get back in time, and leave the secret possible future, a secret.

So far, we have Thomas san and his little lady, and their two friends (all Tokyo area) , Davey san (Osaka), and Mike Cash san (Gunma) coming on the 3rd. The evening meal is already planned, but it will be a bit on the light side, to save calorie gathering room for the 4th. I would suggest that Revenant san and his family, drive up on the 3rd, so as to get here that night, and settle down into a good sleep, rather than leaving super early on the fourth, and then partying only to drive back. (and of course, counting on that possible future of leaving leasurely.

On the fourth, I expect ASHIKAGA san (who you can see in his avatar, background on the left), Steve Red san, and his two sons, and his two lady friends (いいなぁ・・・) driving in sometime before 12:30 ish. (around noon might be the very best, although earlier would be too, I could use some more female help in getting the lunch stuff ready...besides, I just happen to enjoy doing anything with a bunch of young ladies all around me...in addition to little lady Mars Man as well... hee, hee, hee...

And, we will have, in spirit, on the fourth, undrentide chan (whom [if I get permission] I will call on my cellphone at some bilaterally pre-decided time, so that all can say 'HI' to her), Pachipro san (whom we can do the same, if we can get the time zone spacing worked out), Half-n-Half san (who, due to natural circumstances was not allowed to be back in Japan for his school exchange continuation), Damicci san, and lastly, but by no means lesser at all, my dear fellow Martian sister, Tsuyoiko chan. While I do know of others that we will think of during our grand JREF Meet in Shiga 2011, I have only mentioned some of the more recent, regular posters to the thread.

I'll be coming here everyday for check ups, and if any other private information is to be sent, please do it by PM, or if you already have my cellphone info, by that means.

SEE YOU ALL SOON !! MM

Man I wish I could be there, it sounds like it will be a great time! :) Well maybe in the future. I hope everyone has safe travels and a great time together! :D

Thanks, Petaris san !! Yes, if you could be here, you'd too, be able to forget about the world for a moment, and enjoy the actual pleasures that one can find on Mars !! We will, then, think of you !! (and maybe some future day, you too may be able to make it here.

I'll keep you all posted on the weather, but she's looking good--as far as clear skies goes--but she's a little nippy (esp. at night and early morning) yet.
