Japanese Studies (2015-2016)

This wait is too much! I'm constantly checking my email, but I have heard (just online) that it will probably take until June or later to hear back about the results? Do you have any idea, Endy? Ahhhhh!

I think there is absolutely zero chance for hearing about the results sooner than June.

Our embassy told us they'd call us around July, at earliest if we're lucky it would be June.
There's apparently been some cases where it was as late as August.

Hi, I'm from Italy and I passed the first examination as well. There were 30 people or so at the embassy in Rome the day of the first screening, and 9 of us passed and had the short interview. Our embassy told us that the answer from Tokyo would come by the end of May probably, but I don't know about that, it sounds quite impossible judging from past years experiences.

The wait is kind of killing me.

The result has just arrived for me and it seems like I got the scholarship. The university is not decided yet though.
I got it even sooner than anticipated lol

Damn, already? Congrats! I'm getting a bit nervous now.
I'm in Japan right now on vacation, so I don't know if the embassy has contacted us yet.

Congrats Endy!
I got the mail from the embassy this morning, and it looks like I'm getting the scholarship as well :)
They said that the university will be decided after July, so here comes the second round of waiting!

Congratulations to you too :)
I wouldn't say I don't care much about the university I get into but still it's easier to wait for that than it was for the acceptance.

Going to japan right before you would spend there 1 year is a funny thing right? I'm gonna do the same lol. A one month long trip in July!

Thanks!
I actually care quite a lot about the university, but we'll see what happens :) And yes, it is way easier to wait now! Although they did write in the email that there is always that little chance of not getting the scholarship if no university can take you as a student haha It will bug me for the next two months

I was not informed about such a thing yet, however I had read about it on one of the previous applicants' blog. He was told at the time that they don't know about that ever happening but the chance does exist.
There was that question in the application form where they asked if you would still accept the scholarship if you couldn't get into the chosen universities just another one. I think they put the people who answered to that question with yes in the leftover spots (probably at less known places). So it really isn't such a big deal.

The trip was a more or less spontaneous thing, but yeah it feels sort of weird going back and forth like this. Enjoy your trip though!

The embassy called us earlier today, I got the scholarship! I know one more person got it here as well. I've only heard of one guy not getting into a university despite getting the scholarship, but that seemed to be because he picked popular universities and didn't want MEXT to pick a university for him. Looking at the course guides, many less popular universities have leftover spots. Some universities don't even have a limit to how many students they accept.

I have not heard yet, but it's great to hear the great news from everyone! I will now begin checking my mail/phone 24/7... :)

Could you tell me which universities don't have a limit?
Well, I don't actually know if they truly don't have a limit. Most universities listed how many people they accept, and I remember a few of them where it didn't say anything. I think Saga was one of them? A guy I know was placed here. He did pretty bad on the test, but did well on the interview.
There are a lot of leftover spots in smaller universities, so I wouldn't be too worried about not getting to Japan.

You should probably be hearing something soon!

Good luck! You should be hearing about it shortly.

I still have a hard time believing that I got it. It's not like I did not expect this but still I can't even imagine myself in japan

Hi there everyone! I just made an account here to talk about the monbusho ^^
I also applied (through embassy recommendation in the Netherlands) and I'm also waiting (even though I already heard in march that I was tentatively selected as a candidate..)
It's really frustrating having to wait, but it will be worth it I guess :)
I hope I get my first choice, but first I just want to know if I got the scholarship or not

Oh 4 people were selected by the embassy here and my top 3 universities are: 1.Hokkaido university 2. Yamaguchi university 3. Yamagata university ^^ I really hope for Hokkaido or Yamaguchi :D

Had a friend that ended up in Hokkaido University after not getting his first 3 choices. Heard good stuff about the school, but the dorm was apparently horrible. At least the bathrooms. But then again, it cost about 6000 yen per month. In the end, he was very happy with it.
I'd probably choose Hokkaido too, if I wasn't trying go to Tokyo.

I especially want to go to Hokkaido because of the linguistics courses. But it also helps that Sapporo and the campus look really pretty and that they have the largest yosakoi (a kind of Japanese festival dance) festival there. I dance yosakoi myself, so it would be great if I could join a team there
And I also don't like hot summers, so I think this is a good option for me ^^

But good to hear that he was happy about it :) Yeah the dorms are really cheap, but I guess that also says something about the quality.. oh well

I got an email from my first choice. They haven't accepted me yet, but want to know if I want to stay at their designated accommodations if I were to be accepted. Feels good that they're already giving out info at least. Just waiting and doing nothing is killing me.

Holy sh*t you are right! I just checked and I got the same mail from my first choice (Hosei daigaku)! I wonder if everyone is being contacted by their first choice university at this point.

Since both of our first choice is Hosei, it might just be the two of us for now. Hopefully I'll see you there!

Yeah, let's hope we both get in! :)
Now I need to write an answer declining the university accomodation (since I prefer to look for an apartment myself as I did in the past) without sounding like a total jerk or outrageous :D

WOW thats completely new to me! As far as I know we should be the ones getting in contact with the university after the destination is settled.
