Just order them on ebay. They have a lot of Japanese movies with English subtitles and some J-dramas. Sometimes you can find very good deal! In Toronto, I can buy them from DVD stores though.
I recently bought "Beginner" which took me a month to finish eight episodes because I don't really like it. "Beginner" is a story about eight law students, but it is so different from what I expected. It is nothing like "Ally Mcbeal", "The Practice" or "Law & Order." I personally prefer comedies like "Beauty and the Beast" and "Yamato-nadeshiko". I like Nanako Matsushima very much.
If you are into tear-jerkers, "Dr. Koto's Clinic" has a poignant storyline.
Recently, "Pride" and "White Tower" are huge, but I don't have time to watch them.
