Japanese Slang...

I'm not sure whether へばる counts as slang or not ...
エンスト probably does though.

I'll vote rep to whoever who can get both without using a dictionary (Google is OK if you have to ;-)

I'll even give the slight clue that the second is roughly transport related.

I know ensuto. Its engine stop, like a car stall, combination of en-gine and st-op.

Hebaru tho... might need to google that

Edit: found hebaru to mean tired but it doesnt seem too slang like. Might have the wrong word

hebaru to mean tired was the word I was thinking of. (I said I wasn't sure it was slang). The reasons I think it might be are
1. No kanji.
2. Appears as if it may possibly be shortened from へたばる

Of course neither of those things means it _has_ to be slang and I'd be interested to know whether other people think it counts or not.

OK, now for a word that is both slang and 死語 (shigo).

ダチンコ

This is particularly tricky as it isn't even in some dictionaries (e.g. WWWJDIC) so if I could vote two rep I'd do so - but I can't so hard cheese.

I have no idea how it was derived - so double imaginary credits to anyone who knows that.

ガチンコ I've heard - but I don't remember what it means. チャリンコ I haven't come across.

Now I'll go off and check to see what the was for ;-)

Actually I got lucky - it was given the meaning when it was introduced. In fact they mentioned the meaning more than one time.

It was in the 3x3 eyes anime series - so I guess it's from around 1991.

By the way, thanks for the heads up on the series. I shall consider purchasing it now. I just had no idea what it was before.

Plot summary:

Un-aging girl with three eyes wants to become human for reasons she's forgotten. (Although some of them are pretty obvious from watching the anime / reading the manga). She's sent to the care of a certain teenage boy by his father who died in Tibet. In the first episode he's badly injured and only saved from death by her making him her unkillable / unaging servant (A one shot deal until she dies, when he'll die as well, or until she becomes human when he'll return to normal).

The manga is at least 36 volumes long. ^^;

OK the answer to the last one,
ダチンコ
was 'friend' (as in ともだち). I assume the ダチ is from the だち in tomodachi.

Next up, ぶりっこ

Interestingly(?)
- The WWWJDIC and Sanseido definitions are rather different - the Sanseido version matches the way I've seen it used better.
- The WWWJDIC version includes a kanji that I suspect is wrong (or at least very rarely used).
- In the anime in which I came across this word first it was mis-translated.

Yeah that's pretty close to what I thought.
WWWJDIC has
鰤子【ぶりっこ】 child-like woman (pun on buri plus ko)
Sanseido has
いい子ぶること。また、その人。特に若い女性についていう。

So it's a young woman / girl pretending to be nice.

I the anime where I came across it it was translated as 'selfish' which doesn't fit that well.

It's also not good Japanese. I'll give a big hint and say that I keep thinking it should be べりべり but it generally doesn't seem to be spelt that way.

I told my cousin's daughter that I've been having breakfast at Denny's in Osaka and she told me that young Japanese say "Deniru" as a verb to meet at Denny's or hang out at Denny's.
