Japanese Horror!!! Always fun.

Thanks a lot.
I've just watched A Tale of Two Sisters. It's Korean... but very good. I think they are making a Hollywood version. I think they already have but they are doing another. :p They suck.

I need to see that film... I've heard good things about it! ... I'm not likin the sound of the Americans remaking it... They're meant to be remaking Battle Royale... its my pet topic to rant on. I refuse to even entertain the idea!

Asian "horror" I love... horror in " as I know the lines get blurred.

Koroshiya 1 (possibly one of my favorite films of all time)
Ichi episode 0 (no way near as good as the film version but still entertaining)
The Vengence Trillogy
Battle Royale (horror?)
Dark Water
Ju on
Audition

I dont know, that's why I questioned it... I think it would come under the horror section of a video shop... if it werent under forign that is.

I dont think its horror... but I dont think Interview with the Vampire is horror [drama/ romance/ supernatural!] ... and dont really want to class Ichi as horror [psychological thriller]
so I dont think Im the best judge of what is horror.

It is more of a thriller than a horror, surely. Does the box have the large, "Tartan Asia Extreme" logo on it? Probably a horror then. Ichi is more disturbing than horror. Haha.

I recently purchased 'The Eye and thoroughly enjoyed it. It isn't Japanese (I think it's Chinese) but it is still very much worth the watch.
It has a lot of creepy imagery, and the overall tone of the movie is one of great unease, unlike american horror movies which are all about the '1-second-scares'.

i have a question , i just watched a movie called voice . actually two questions ... 1. what country is it from , i know it is not japanese . im guessing chinese, but i dont kno. and 2. whoever has seen it , what the hell happened in the end i got so freaking lost . lol. thankx in advance!

Well i like more asian movies then american movies, i still don't know why its maybe i have a big crush on japan?? i still don't know :p

well i like all japanese movies but for the thriller (wich is very amusing cause they do it far more better then the american

Herbal☆ Have you seen Oldboy? The first of the vengance trillogy... such a damn good film!

Kirie_Maiden It amuses me when people don't understand Tartan Extreme... my step dad got a film out from them and was supprised when it was violent.

You ought to check your facts on Oldboy. It is the second in the vengence trilogy. The first was Sympathy for Mr. Vengence. I have a feeling it has already been mentioned on this thread.

Puls is the remake of Kairo.
The US one does a better job of explaining what was happening. I think.

Tomie is an odd one.

More than a few of those aren't horror at all, even though some are good movies... try to keep the thread on a horror / psychological drama theme...

Also, why ganbatte ne?

If youre just looking for Asian horror you can't go wrong with the eye which is really quite scary when watched alone and even has a hidden "real" ghost, look out for it. R-point isn't too bad but it's not fantastic either. Reincarnation is considered to be the movie that saved J-horror and it is really good. The sequel to Ju-on was good. All three ringu movies are awesome as is the Korean remake known as virus. Avoid spiral though because it is terrible. The eye 2 was suitably creepy but the third in the eye trilogy is a comedy horror. Make your own mind up about that one it's a weird one haha

I'll check those our TheGracieHunter.

I've just recently seen Reincarnation. It is very good. The only bit that annoyed me was when the doll walked near the end. It went from horror to pure cheese at that point.

I am currently watching Takashi Miikes' MPD Psycho series. Typical Takashi gore, violence and damn weirdness. I am not 100% certain what exactly is going on, but its kinda fun. Watch out for the barcoders.

Might check that one out too, Mycernius. I've just watched Ju-On and I had previously seen Ju-On 2.

Me and my mother wrote the rule of being in a Japanese Horror film.

1.) Don't.

That is the only rule. Don't go inside, don't go outside, don't talk, don't move, don't do things. In Western horror, people die due to their own stupidity. In Japanese horror, people die for breathing.

Awesome , now i have something to watch when we dont have cable at our new place for a couple of days :D

haha thats quality. let me add aanother dont though if you dont mind.
Dont be selfish. when juon is coming to kill you dont envolve me! When Sadako is going to kill you in 3 days dont share the video.

umm.. forbidden siren based on the video game siren
shutter-it's a thai movie, i was watching it with my friends one time and my friend who was beside be was screaming on my ear ahaha... -.-
the wig- i know the title is kind of funny but my friend said it was scary
ghost system- it's kind of confusing o_0...

@frostyg02uk: Yeah. There are many rules for J-Horror but the main one is just plain DON'T!

@reiyuki: Those all seem really cool. I have simply GOT to see, "The Wig." Just because of the title.

Sounds fun.

Let's see... I've now seen Pulse, R-Point and... for some reason... Ashura. I have no idea why I watched that last one, as it turned out to be fantasy and not horror... but it is an awesome film anyway.

Western VS Eastern horror

In my opinion, most Western, especially US horror movies are rather filled with splatter/gore/blood elements, while most Eastern movies are rather creepy.

i haven't watch this yet but it's in the horror category:
the Haunted Apartments
here's the description:
There are a number of strange things about the new apartment building. Aimi makes up her mind to find out what happened to a girl called Ai, who went missing on her way home from school 30 years ago. She finds one piece of evidence: Ai in fact came back to the building the day she disappeared. So why, then, did she vanish? And why, then was she listed as 'missing'? Perhaps her body is somewhere in the building...

like watching scary stuff eh?
have you seen this show: scariest places on earth ?
that's show's pretty old though, i think you might have watched it 😌
