The first thing you have to do is stop wearing that hockey mask 24x7. Most girls aren't into that.

heads up!

F.Y.I.

For any of you interested, Kansai Time Out just published a great article about inter-cultural dating in Japan. Specifically, about women and Japanese men. For those of you not in Japan, go to www.kto.co.jp You can't read the article online, but you can subscribe and have KTO mailed to your house!

Hehe...Good point, Golgo...But back to the point being made about this topic killing itself...
Anyone else see that the rigor mortis has set in? Not that i mean to be rude, but uh....we seem to be getting a lot of the same points being brought up repeatedly.

Let's just leave it at "Loves all that matters".

Japanese girls and white guys??? This is something I see a lot here in japan. There are Japanese girls who just want to date white guys, some black guy, or just stick with there own race. As for me, I'm color blind to the fact what race a person may be. No race is better than the other. We are all human. The only difference is the blood which runs through our vain, our skin, hair, eyes, and most importantly our personality. Personality ought to be the key factor in a relationship not race. We should be able to love someone for who they are and not for who their not. Don't let others like your friends or family tell you who you can date nor date. It's your life not theres. Is they way they think going to make you happy. No!! You only have one life to live so live your own life, and not based on what others may think about who you fall in love with. I know I lost a good woman due to the fact her family didn't like my race. She she chose her family. Was I hate??? Let's say it took me a year to get over this girl. So open your heart and your mind and allow the unknow to wonder inside you. Embace that moment of loving someone no matter their race.

The Japanese media also promotes a romantic image of the local girl being swept away by a handsome Gaijin.

Case in point: I recently saw a Dorama called "Hakoiri Musume" (Sheltered Daughter), a sweet story about two sisters from a mountain village looking for the loves of their lives. The older girl is pursued by an AMerican securities analyst working in Japan (played by Mark Condon, who has an Australian accent). It's a seesaw situation where she rejects him, falls for him, he gets transfered back to the States, she decides to marry a Japanese Osananajimi (childhood friend), he quits his job in the States to come back to Japan for her, she cancels her wedding to the Japanese right in the middle of the wedding, and she and the tall, handsome, sensitive, romantic Gaijin live happily ever after.

Actuially, it wasn't a bad show at all.

IMO, 99,9% of Japanese girls go out or marry white guys, as Japanese are also white.

Japanese are white ???

I agree because it's also the easiest for the family to accept..know what I mean?

If they stay out of the sun, you'd be amazed how white some Japanese people's skin can be.

I'd have to kind of agree with Maciamo and Smoker. My parents and both sides of my family would have never accepted me dating/marrying a black man, but they welcomed my husband with open arms. I think it has everything to do with stereotypes.

on the other hand, when my girlfriend in college and I decided to marry after graduation, her parents did not accept. They (the father, a German-American white guy from New Jersey and an out-of-work college proefssor, and the mother from Bogota, Colombia) insisted that Japanese "are no better than blacks or Mexicans." Exact quote. If the girl really did love me she would've told her parents "tough ****!" and married me anyway, but she didn't, so I'm better off anyways.

Wow, and to think my whole family is deeply rooted in the South...

I Remember....

in the early 70's While in the Navy in Fukuoka, I put in my papers to marry a Japanese girl; the Navy sent me to a Shrink, said I must be crazy! My "LOVING" family back
home said, and I quote " If you marry that slant-eyed, gook *****, don't bother coming home!! ". I basically
told everyone to shove it, I was going to marry her, then she changed her mind, Oh well?

But I salute you for your convictions. And that was in the 1970's? Good Lord.

Of those American servicemen who fought in the pacific in WWII and stayed in Japan after their surrender as part of the GHQ, then married and brought back Japanese wives in the late '40s or early '50s, I wonder what kind of treatment the couples received (from both sides of the family). Not good, huh? Some WWII veterans, like the martial artist and writer Donn Draeger ended up staying in Japan until death.

BTW, didn't the term "gook" originate in the Korean War? Because the koreans call their country "Han gook" (pronounced "Kankoku" in Japanese") and there was no appropriate derogatory word for the Koreans similar to Chink or Jap.

I had always wondered where some of the ethnic names came from :p

I've seen a few couples that just should not have ever gotten married, but it's more a basis on how the individuals were raised rather than their national backgrounds....

scary that a J-woman that is married is still seeking out fanatsies of wanting to find her prince charming out there, even though she's already married to a white American guy that is already fairly nice and decent, kind fella...some people just should remain in their storybook fantasy land and never bother getting married to decent people....but then again, the guy in that relationship probably ain't too bright, either, if he can't see that...so, maybe they were made for each other? :D

I dunno.....

but you all already knew that :D

I can't help but laugh because I can picture it so well :D (not laughing at the girl changing her mind..the other stuff.)

I heard they called the Vietnamese "gooks" as well during the Vietnam war.

Yes. They also didn't have a derogatory term for the Vietnamese (Viets? Nams?) so "Gook" was used. "Gook" eventually became a generic term used to referred to all Orientals.

BTW, The funny face that Harpo Marx used to make that was called "Gookie" in the 1930s had nothing to do with Orientals.

if I get a girlfriend that is non-chinese
there might be problems, especially if she is black or indian
as my brother and father always have prejudices towards non-Chinese people, I think they are racists

I think there are more Caucasian and black women going for Oriental men,
you can find those sites on googles...some even says they will go for Oriental men ONLY

Really? I wonder why that is? :? (not that it's a bad thing...just interesting)

I guess it's no different than the many, many groups that are looking for Asian women only? There are western women who have so-called 'yellow fever' too, I guess. It seems I've even noticed an increase in the interest in Japanese guys with the increase in J-Rock/anime/manga/etc. crazed western girls.

I don't like to be the kind of person who judges people based on their race, but, I must admit, I'm quite attracted to Asian women. In part it might be because I'm very comfortable around Asian people since my cousins who I grew up with are half Chinese, but my liking for Asian women increased quite a lot after my time in Japan. I just think their features are very beautiful. I have no control over it, is that so wrong?

A little off topic....
