OK, I have IME, but I haven't typed in Japanese for while and now I've forgotten how to type in Japanese.... ^_^; Can someone remind me how...

If you're still stuck and you're sure that you have the Japanese IME installed, just click on the EN down in your task bar and that will open a little menu - choose Japanese. If there's an "A," click that and then choose Hiragana. Now type 'ka' and it will magically turn into か If you're still stuck, go to the link that "God" gave you and it will explain it in a lot more detail.

I followed your instructions, but I don't get any automatic transciption into kana/gana. Does that mean I don't have IME installed?

If I don't have it, how do I install it in Windows XP home edition? ☝

I went to the site to download what I needed and it said it would only work for XP PRO "NOT" XP home, so I gave up? Someone may know for sure about XP Home not working.

Maybe you could try downloading an IME for win2000. I don't really know how it works, but I use 98 on my home computer and some programs for 2000 or XP also work for me, maybe you could try and see if an older version that's not XP-only would work. It's worth a try ^^

I'm running XP Home on my laptop and have been using Japanese day one with no problems whatsoever. I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that there are problems with the IME and XP Home -- I went to the link given above, and the instructions given seem identical to what I did to install Japanese support on my system.

I went to the site to download what I needed and it said it would only work for XP PRO "NOT" XP home, so I gave up? Someone may know for sure about XP Home not working.

Frank, I'm not sure which site you went to (Microsoft's site?) but with XP, you don't have to download anything -- all of the Japanese support files for XP are on your Windows CD-ROM. You just have to change a few settings in the Control Panel and then insert your CD when prompted for it. Check the instructions here again:
