In spirit I agree. If I may add, 'insulting' anyone or anything would be idiotic if one were serious. But taken with either a bit of humor, or a bit of respect, which presupposes at least some knowledge of what one is talking about, very few comments would turn out to be genuine insults. And to add one more comment, ignorance really makes any 'insult' meaningless although it may be a little difficult to prove that people shouldn't get insulted by it.

A preacher once said saying someone is ignorant is not an insult because it only means that person doesn't know. It's surprising to hear that coming from a Christian teacher when Christ is supposed to have said, 'Anyone who calls a brother a raga (Aramaic for 'fool' ?) deserves to be punished.' (paraphrase) If that preacher wasn't trying to be contradictory with the sayings, I would assume then that calling someone ignorant isn't really an insult at all.

Perhaps we can start asking, 'Did you mean to be insulting with a good understanding of what you were talking about ? Do you know enough to make a disparaging statement ? Why do you sound angry at so-and-so ?' I wonder if it would be too cumbersome to ask ? Or would saying so also offend ?

Japanese as muslims?

Hi, being an asian chinese. i don't think many japanese would be interested in becoming muslims. becoming christians would be more probable.

the main reason is that it is inconceivable for most non muslim asians to give up pork. And true muslims can't even eat in places where pork and alcohol are served. Most japanese love their food and alcohol, so it is unthinkable to claim that there are more and more japanese muslims.

Halah food is virtually impossible to find in japan and korea.

Most families would also object their members converting to a religion where they no longer can eat with their families and friends. Most asians esp those with cultures influenced by china love their food and food culture is an inseperable part of their family ties.

I believe this would be interesting for you to prove how japanese muslims live in japan.

In my country, non muslims convert mainly through marriage to a muslim lady and most just convert in name only.

No offence but why go to a country if you dont like their religion, why is it too small? I would not go to an islamic contry and espect everyone in that country to change their religion, I would not complain there were too few christians I would I would already know that it was not a christian country I was going to (if that makes sence).

Many good points made here. I would agree that religion, especially the 'living' religions--since we can really see, study, and rather understand their platforms--have done good for humankind as well as bad. It may actually the the animal that we are that is the root of it rather than the religions that we come up with.

Now, folks, and some of you well know, I may be able to talk about the databases for Judism and Christiantiy, but cannot for Islam, basically, so I will noe even try to talk about that here. Just loved reading the posting. (I sometimes feel I wish there were a tid-bit more of a tendency to be true to the known facts, rather than be swayed by emotions.)

Religion in japan is rarely held so fantically and with all seriousness as in most of the world, a japanese could call themselves muslim and you'd be hard pressed to notice this religious affiliation in their day to day life.

Religion in japan is primarily buddhism and shinto, and really only because the japanese hold a high regard for tradition so, though i dont doubt a few are muslim, the number you claim to be is somewhat.....hard to believe as stated before, and those who do claim to be most likely wont follow it in the more serious manner which being a proper muslim may require.

As for worrying about this negetive image of muslims, you need not worry, christians have done bad things to, but that doesnt make all christians as baddies, so it doesnt make all muslims bad just because a bunch of nutjobs who DONT follow the proper teachings of islam go about killing.

Over what we seen this past week on the news, we saw an innocent 25yr old japanese man being beheaded. These so called Militants give bad meaning to our faith Islam (submisssion to Allah and peace). I as a Palestinian and a faithful muslim know that this is extremely wrong. I know my brothers and sisters in this forum can't deny that it is wrong.

The question is why is the prime ministor co-siding in america? Japan's citizens didn't want to get involved in this.

Let me get this straight. You are saying that Militants and their behaviors give bad meaning to the fath of Islam, but in the very next paragraph you are asking why is the prime minister is siding with america and their war on these militants? Are think you are confused on your views

Personaly I feel that the Islam faith and it's people need to step up to the plate and get rid if the militants and the fanatisism.

What's the difference between the religion and people who follow it. Are practitioners what makes a religion what it is ? (Catholic) Christianity 1000 years ago was not at all like it is now. Without believers, a religion becomes extinct. Whatever one believes that religion is man-made or divine, it is a fact that religious practices, rules and believes evolve with the society and people in which they exist.

My point is that you cannot blame followers of a religion without blaming the religion itself, as this religion would not exist or be alive without them.

Regarding Islam and terrorism (or jihad), I think it's too easy for other Muslims to dismiss these actions as deviant Islam or "not the true Islam". Aren't those terrorists taught about religion by other Muslims ? Do not they grow up in typically entirely Muslim environment and families ? So, how could one not blame their family, environment and religious education (at the mosque) for what they have become ? Isn't it the duty of their parents or educators to inculcate them the "true values of Islam" ? If they are misled or confused, then there are people responsible for that. I always say "if you can't take care of your children's education, don't make them in the first place, as you are responsible for what they become". Being a parent is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. The more children one has, and the hardest it becomes.

I am not sure if you remember, but after 9/11, there were celebrations in the streets of some Muslim countries. I think it is normal that people raised in such environment (e.g. where the US is seen as an enemy and a terrorist attack on US soil is seen as a "victory") with strong religious beliefs should become terrorists. It is also the responsibility of Islamist government (e.g. Iran, Saudi Arabia...) to teach the so-called 'true values of Islam" such as peace and non-violence. If they fail, then it is their responsability as leaders of their religious community. Who says 'carrying responsability' means 'accepting punishment'. I have no sympathy for those governments. Saudi Arabia is by far the worst (but the US won't "punish" them as they were bribed to the bone with black gold).

Good afternoon there Maciamo san !! Hope's all well with you today. I haven't come back along this way in a while, and it seems as though maybe our visitor hasn't either, but I enjoyed your last two posts. I couldn't quite tell whether you were using the quote in post #148 to support what you were pointing out, or whether you were making counter point. But, which ever, I had intended to make the same point in that earlier post of mine. The animal--the homo sapien--makes the religion, and although the religion, in one sense could be seen as a distinct entity, it is the aggregate of human nature. In otherwords, it's the people themselves. I think that was basically the very same point you were making there, right? Or did I somehow miss that?

It's just that I have come to understand that we are just as animal as the tiger in the zoo. The 'Abrahamic' faiths, for now, have tried too hard to put humans above that; and it's a fallicy. Religion is as much a result of the type of animal we are, as it is a creation of the animal we are. I agree with the conclusions you reached from that observation.
